Default Admin Password

Post by NightBlader »

Hello

Me and a friend have recently suffered from some trolls crashing our server.
The only way I can think of doing that would be to use the '/admin /shutdown' command. However, I tested to see if the default was blank and it is not.
This person could almost instantly shut the server down, so I am assuming there is some default password, as I am pretty sure my friend didn't set a new password.

My question is: Is there a default password and what is it? Does it still work after the password has been changed by the host/admin?

Do you have access to the server manager application, or are you running your server straight through Battlefront? If you can, try and catch the gamertags of those logging in and start with that block. Unless they have a personal vendetta against you simply blocking their name should keep them away for a bit. It's been a long time since I've used the server manager, but if it tracks IP addresses, ban them by IP, too.

I use Gameranger, and therefore I never directly access the server software.
I know who it is, so a 'block' admin command would be nice but I did not see any.

I am assuming then that you do not know of a default password or one does not exist?

From what I understand of GameRanger it's more of a lobby system that let's you create a lobby and launch the game from their services. I don't know whether you can start up with a password from that point. I'd recommend hitting up the GameRanger forums if you're doing everything from that system.

Actually Gameranger is a peer to peer system. Therefore the game is actually hosted on your computer as far as I know. I will look for tutorials on creating a server if it's anything like mc then you should be able to save it.

Please answer this though: Do you know of a default password for the admin? Recently my sever, which I changed the password on, was shutdown by a troll twice. One went so far as to copy my name. Sounds strange maybe but unfortunately gameranger has a ton of jerks on it. :runaway:

No idea. If you're running peer-to-peer then whatever you have set on your local machine is your password. There's no default -- in that case the default is no password at all.

Okay. Thank you for your time and help.
Perhaps I should do more testing to see it just inserting a space would pass the login by default. Still doesn't explain them being able to shut the game down once I had changed the password.
It is possible that they have an edited version of the game, giving them admin access every time. :x

Thanks again,

No, but it's possible they're hacking. I haven't kept up with SWBF2 hosting, but one of the SWBF2 competition groups used to release modified server exes that blocked known hacks. If you're not running a modified exe they might be exploiting old bugs. I haven't heard of anyone gaining admin access, but people could crash servers.
