Well it needs to be 2 separate since the hardpoints are already set up as well as making them the right distance apart so that it lines up with the model will be tough. I have exported a mesh effect but making it work correctly seems tough.

Here

That is just the .msh file exported from XSI, been trying to make it work with editing the com_sfx_jedistarfighter_blue.fx to use it but it produces a less than desirable result. That is just the left side, I exported each side separate since I don't think I can mirror it.

Also, update on this model, lowrez, collisions(animated and non) and shadowvolume are all done and working. The only thing (aside from a cockpit view which is kinda meh) is this engine effect.

EDIT: Just tested the effect and sorry, just wont look right, custom mesh is probably the only way for this unique shape, I just haven't been able to get it working correctly. Ace's tutorial doesn't go enough into depth about how to get the colors right, mine is just black squares but is transparent in game, looks odd though.

Well you tried, if you look at the model you can see that the traditional effect (like the Millenium Falcon) just wont work, needs a unique shape. I'm playing around with it as we speak, hopefully I can figure something out.

EDIT: Getting there, at least now have it a shape that matches the thruster and has a trail that comes to a kinda point, just need a flash in the center and figure out how to make it look as if it's giving off light. Right now it kinda looks like a genies ghost like tail, only way I can think to describe it, much like the falcon effect in Mav's fx mesh tutorial.

You're overthinking this, just grab an exhaust effect and inject it with your custom msh like the image shown in my tutorial and make visual adjustments(if necessary) to suit your needs.

Well credits to Ace and -_- for making the original Lambda exhaust effect, since I couldn't get my own the way I wanted it I just made that effect smaller and go vertical. Just needs some minor tweaking so that it doesn't clip the model.
