How Graphic is TES4:Oblivion?

Post by Blade »

I've been thinking about getting Oblivion for awhile now, and now that I'm rather sure my computer can run it, I think I probably will. The only thing I need to get now is the parents' OK, which might be kinda tough. I know that the sexual content and stuff isn't really there unless you mod it, which I don't plan on doing. More what they're worried about is Graphic violence. The hacking and slashing doesn't bother them as much, especially as I've heard that blood can be turned off, but the stuff like dismembered corpses in dungeons/stuff like that is what they don't like and what I don't terribly enjoy either.

So I'm just wondering how much graphic violence/after effects of violence there is before I get it and shock my parents and get slightly disgusted myself :P.

Thanks in advance
For anyone who's interested in seeing what I'm talking about
This (click) is the wikipedia article showing the more graphic stuff that spurred the change. Oh, also be aware that there's another photo at the top of the page depicting the other reason that the rating was change...

It isn't terribly common, except for in the Oblivion Planes. Which are for sake of non-spoiler explanation are a series of dungeons. (sort of) Which will contain pinned up corpses that resemble the zombies that you encounter throughout the game. I.E. green skin and missing bits. Sometimes these corpses are on fire.
You will on occasion see a black charred corpse next to lava pools in Oblivion aswell. Not any detail, just a black human form

Some of the Mages Guild quest locations have corpses, as the quests involve removal of necromancers.
In addition I can think of atleast a few examples of you finding a dead bandit in a dungeon. Having been killed by something or another.

In my personal opinion, corpses are not that graphic; sure they may be, hum, missing some bits here and there and they may be impaled, but corpses are corpses, they are already dead, they don't move and you don't have to look at them. Besides, things could be much, much, much worse, Survival Horror games and more mature Hack 'n' Slash games come to mind.

Of course, your parents may think differently, and by no means I disagree with their decision to know what video games their children are playing. I'm just giving my two cents.

Alright, thanks guys.

They're not so much worried about corpses themselves, just they don't particularly like the whole "Bloody-dismemberment-his-face-is-there-and-his-head's-over-here" stuff. Dead bodies themselves aren't the problem.
