Animated props won't take cloth. You'd have to make a static model of the cloth.

Static = unmoving/unchanging. I just mean the cloth couldn't have cloth properties. You'd need to change the animated model so that the cloth was no longer cloth or you'd need to add in a new model that looked like cloth but had none of its properties.

couldn't I just take away the cloth properties from the cloth model?

Not unless you're supergood at hexediting. I couldn't tell you how to do it, and I know if I really wanted to do myself what you're suggesting, I would just make a new static model.

(That being said, I wouldn't do what you're doing, because I can't imagine what I'd need cloth on an animated prop badly enough to do all that work.)
