OBJ import troubles - XSI Modtool 6

Post by Fiodis »

I found a really, really nice tank model on the web; a free download, and the author grants permission for you to do what you want with it. Naturally I wanted to take a look into it, so I downloaded the obj and tried to import it. XSI crashed with a message that says "Faield to save scene before system failure."

Now, assuming the file isn't corrupted, is there any particular thing that may cause XSI to crash when you try to import an obj file? It's 17.3 MB in filesize.

EDIT - Right, tried it a few times. It gets to "Obj import - 86%" or so before freezing and crashing.

And I've found some statistics on the model -
Polygons: 92,857
Vertices: 107,975

Is that too much for XSI to handle? It's obviously way too much for SWBF2, but I had hoped to lower the count. Unfortunately I can't even import the model.

I think there's something wrong with the model, as Milkshape crashed when I imported it as well, and I have imported models with a waaay higher polycount into MS3D with no problem.

Ah well. Thanks for trying, anyway. I'll try and contact the author, see what the problem is.
