Renegade Squadron Custom Weapons

Okay, I had an idea. I am about to look into making my own custom weapons,

BUT

I need to know from the experienced and skilled modders of the site we call GAMETOAST if it is physically possible to make a carbonite freezing gun (freezes people for a couple seconds)

I also would like to know (just because I am curious and might feebly attempt it) if it is possible to
make a hero ctf (who ever has the flag is the hero and must kill the other hero so teamates can get the flag) and finally a custom colour scheme. Maybe I am over my head here and won't even try it, but maybe somebody else will. Speak up gametoast! What do you think?

The gun is definitely possible, as Mav just made a grenade which did much the same thing. I'm not sure exactly how you'd implement it, but it shouldn't be too hard with a bit of help.

Cp colours are changeable, but once captured they won't change to the other teams colour. Hero CTF is actually extremely easy and you could do it with no help at all. Just copy over the sides section of the eli lua of your map, and it should work fine.

Thats not what he means for Hero CTF. He means that when you pick the flag up you turn into the hero instantly without having to respawn, and you wont drop the flag.

This however is a lot harder I think.

Oh. In that case, I'd probably hold off on that part until you've done some simple scripting for your map already.

Well, I think this could be accomplished by an advanced modder (not me)
this is an interesting topic and I think this should give some challenges for people if they attempt it.
If someone does get though, think of the fun hero ctf would bring as a new gamemode.
the question remains though. Is it possible?

its perfectly possible and i think thats pretty much what maveritchell did in bakura, when you pick up a flag/weapon a new unit controlled by you is spaned in the place of the old one (correct me if im wrong, thats how i think its done)

Hmmm, spawn a new unit and take over its body you say? Hmm... That might actually be fun. Hero CTF was about the only saving grace for me with Renegade Squadron. It'd be cool to do it up right on the PC.

I get the spawning the entity, but how could you take it over? A remote wouldn't work, as the "driver" could still be killed.

i dont know how mav did it, but atleast to me it looked like you were always newly spawned when you picked up a weapon (i think there was some cameramovement)

maybe you could have it so someone is assigned to be the hero and then they carry the flag automatically. Or just have it when you enter the flag region, it asks if you want to play as the hero and you accept and you spawn in the flag zone and then kick some butt. But then there is the stupid hero timer...

That's not really the issue. It's how to change characters on the fly. Maybe I'm wrong, but there's no easy way (if any way at all) to program that. Changes to a unit always happen on respawn.

To change character - Getentitymatrix, teleport player to a different location so their body doesn't stay around, kill and respawn (as whatever class you want) at the matrix you got to start with. Should actually be fairly simple to do what you're saying and (I think) online compatible since you aren't changing any unit properties/weapons.
The camera glitch on Bakura (I'm assuming) is due to the momentarily teleporting away, dieing and respawning bit.

wait. In 'The Big L' there were check points. Maybe you could just instead have checkpoints to spawn as a hero. The checkpoint is the flag. It follows it. Wait...does that make sense?


To be quite frank, I am curious to hear what Mav thinks about all of this.
