ANYHOW...
I'm actually okay with how the heroes were handled in this game, aside from one thing. Force push/pull. And choke on occasion. They can have lightsaber throw, they can have lightining. But giving ANYONE an ability where they can totally stun one or more players without any consequences for the stunner... that's bad design. Which is why choke is okay sometimes. You can stun one player, but your movement is slowed and you don't have any defense.

I'm a big fan of the dueling metagame. No force (aside from saber throw and lightning), lightsaber v lightsaber. Reading your opponents moves, utilization of the dash attack, backslash counters, it can get quite intense. And if both you and your opponent agree to let each other up if one of you gets knocked down, it no longer becomes "who gets the first hit" but rather more of a game of wits.

You're a funny man!

It's a very nice concept, but yeah, that only works if it's a private server with just a couple people you know on it. Courtesy? On SWGO, Merc, or anywhere else that's public? Yeah, not happening. I stopped playing on SWGO's Hero Assault server because they are total nimrods, force pushing/pulling, choking, and every other dirty move out there. You had to either play dirty or get your butt kicked. I'm not willing to play by their rules, so I just quit Hero Assault and stuck with playing on SWGO Jedi Battle Arena. Which, if you think about it, is ironic. Shouldn't their Hero Asault server been called Jedi Battle Arena? I don't know with those penguins sometimes.

This is the #1 reason to remove "stun" from the Jedi's arsenal of abilities. Which, is what I always do. Even if that's the only change I make to a Jedi when modding, it's that.

You know, In big servers, I don't see a big problem with Hero's.

Yes: They get alot of kills.
Yes: They CAN get annoying.
No: They are not that hard to kill. Simply, a few shots with a Sniper Rifle, a Det, A mine, rocket. It's really not that hard if you are decently good at aiming.

Just my .02 Cents.

Actually we're primarily referring to Hero Assault. Sure, heroes in a conquest match are about as useful as powdered water.

Well OF COURSE it's not happening on any normal servers, that's why I specifically mentioned the "dueling metagame." You know, where two players meet up in a specified area? Usually the Mos Eisley hangar? And they both agree to a set of rules sometimes set up by the server admins themselves?

Or do you seriously have no idea what I'm talking about :?

I know what you are referring to. I am a noble and chivalrous duelist. (Except when I see a cheap guy. Then a become Aalya, challenge him, and give them a taste of their own medicine.

Exactly, always let them up until they don't let you up. Then show them just how many times you can get the first hit before they ragequit.

When I do play multiplayer, I regard force pull as fair play against blaster heroes, especially the Fett's, and I can't do 'let ups', it's a reflex. 99.9% of the time I play single player against AI who will NOT let you up, and if you give them the chance to knock you down, you are dead.

But things like this are why I mod the way I do. I think everything available should be fair game to use and therefore fairly balanced for human and AI use. Fairness should be built into the sides, not social rules that can be ignored or accidentally broken.

Oh, absolutely, when playing the ACTUAL GAME.
There's a reason it's called a metagame. Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game.
It's a game within a game.
Like the chess set in the Battle Arena.
A game has a set of rules.
It's up to the players to follow those rules.
Anyone can easily break those rules in the same way I can move my pawn from the starting position and capture the king, say "I win," and then run off.

Battlefrontception.

I knew what you meant, I just rarely see it go as well as it does on paper.

Except, imho, some of the metagame's rules [no force, let ups] are simply countering the quirks of the sides to make it a fair duel where the mechanics didn't, but should have, and affect the actual game as much as any metagame.

Yo so I was banned from a SWGO game due to a conflict with the admin, and now every online match I try to join (no matter who's hosting) it says "your cd key is not authorized to play this game".

Anyone know what's going on?

Either way, why play hero assault when I could just play JA and have more fun with dueling that's far more technical? I'll usually do private dueling with no force in FFA games.

@ AirspeedRedux - Your not banned for a certain amount of matches. Your banned for a certain time period. Depending on what you did, it could be 1 hour - Perm.

Go to www.SWGOhome.com sign up, then go to the ban reversals sub forum, and post in there asking how long you were banned. Also make sure you include your ingame name you were playing as.

@ minilogoguy18 - Why duel in HA, when you could 1v1 Conquest, or do a team scrim with your clan?

Because not all of us have JA, and we were discussing the enjoyability of the lightsaber-wielding units in SWBF2, as this is the SWBF2 General discussion board, and the original discussion was regarding the SWBF2 multiplayer scene?

The point was that there is no enjoyability to playing as a lightsaber wielding character in SWBF2. Main thing that caught my attention when I saw the first trailer of the game was the space combat that allowed raiding of enemy ships. I'll have to look for a good space server when I'm done going through KotOR 2 again.

Do any servers out there host the old SWBF1 maps? I liked the old Bespin and Tatooine.
