Adding New Modes to Maps

Post by nmycon »

Hey, as everyone knows, i am making a "Movie Mods" pack, i have finished the Death Star, am almost finished Utapau and have a couple of maps that I will work on next (maybe Bespin, Naboo plains...) anyways, instead of creating 2 maps so that you dont have

Death Star
Death Star: Episode IV
Utapau
Utapau: Episode III

you can have the default map, but have an icon in the modes list to select "Movie" or something like that, the icon can be a film or something

can anyone tell me how i can do this, that way the download size would also be MUCH smaller (maybe 4-5MB) as I would only have to release the sides, not the whole map all over again

What? Are you trying to make a game mode that only plays a movie? If so, why not just release the movie files as movies (which they are) instead of trying to fake them as maps?

lol, no!

Im making side mods to recreate battles in movies

for example, for my Death Star: Episoe IV

the rebels have han solo instead of bothan, chewie instead of wookie warrior, leia and ben kenobi with tatooine like as the hero

the empire has vader with the emperor as the hero and more units on the battlefield

i want to add a mode to the default death star map called "Movie" instead of having to release a whole new map (would save room for addon maps and reduce clutter in selection list)

Ahh, that makes much more sense. However, those aren't really game modes. You're still playing Conquest or whatever on the map right? I think some type of movie era would be better.

I don't remember what all the era character codes were going to be used for. That topic (and the one with all my custom era work :runaway:) got wiped out when SWBF2 General was picked clean .

If you want an era, I'd need at least its name, a description of the era, and an era icon. If I ever get the era side stuff working, I may also need side names, side descriptions, and side icons.

ya, i wasnt thinking of that, lol, Movie Era! thats right!

actually, id rather do it myself because i'm still kind of a beginner and i am trying to become as self-sufficient as i can, so do you think you could tell me how to do it (maybe like a mini-tut)

if you dont have time i completely understand!

@ Zerted -- let's just use _m for "Movie" era. Then we could do all modes with "Movie" sides.

Creating a new era like that requires a new shell, right? Also, if a new era is created for an existing map, can zeroeditor work be done for it, or would you have to replace the ***.lvl file for that?

yeah, it requires a new shell.

As far as setting things up to work with that, it's not very difficult, but we haven't made it public since things aren't really ready yet for folks to add new eras. The only thing that's done right now is the stuff Zerted's done with the code. Icons and tutorials still need to be written.

I dunno. Sometime this summer for sure. I'm letting Zerted work at his pace cuz' I still have lots to do for the next version of the Convo Pack (which will include it). I'm pretty sure he'll have it as a separate download too when that time comes.

We can't until we release a new shell. It probably won't be released until mid-late summer.
