Deleting Videos

Post by Grev »

Dear Gametoast,

I was recording a video recently, when the recording software gave me the heads up that I was running out of room to store the video. I checked, and while I couldn't find how much free room I had, the raw video files I had on my computer were about 2.5 GB each, and the processed files were about 250 MB each. Should I simply delete all of these files, since I barely reference them anymore, and since I can download the processed files from youtube again should I need them? Or is there a way to substantially reduce the file size?

Thanks,
Grev

Dear Grev,

If you delete your raw files, you're probably fine. I would hang on to your processed files though, since there's no guarantee that the versions you download again from YouTube will have their original uncompressed quality.

Dear Maveritchell,

I promptly deleted the raw files after reading your advice. I now have 429 GB free, as opposed to ~326 MB before the deletion. Thank you sir.

Sincerely,
Grev
