XSI locks up upon opening Scene [Solved]

Post by AgentSmith_#27 »

I'm getting *Extremely* agitated, because I've been working on Texturing chunk #2 of the stock star destroyer in XSI 7.5 I've made a decent amount of progress, but now I've saved the scene and when I come back to open it XSI locks up on "Installing Referenced Models... 100%"

What is causing this? and is all my work lost? What I did before it crashed was copy and paste the UVS from one side and create new polygons between 2 points (I deleted the original ones because I couldn't select them all to texture them, and there were more layers than I though was necessary)

i im afraid i dont know what could be causing this. if you are lucky, youll find a backup of the scene in the modtool_database\Backup-folder

Thank you very much, I did find the backups, between my multiple saves I originally made and the different backups for the different saves hopefully I will be able to at least open it again, but how will I progress if this happens every time I do something?

Edit: I've discovered something else, a .lock file is created in the folder after I try to open it from XSI and it disappears once I close XSI through task manage. Also I'm unable to open any backup files thus far.

many application such as word create files similar to the ".lock"s. they are generated when the user opens files and i suppose they are used to store changes the user made (without saving). its normal that they are deleted when the file is closed because its saved normally then normally.

ok. I was able to open an early save- is it possible copying&pasting UV's is creating the problem? it appears to work in xsi but then after I save and try to open it, it crashes. The only other thing I did was create a new polygon but I've done that a lot before with no problems.

Edit: I tried it without copying&pasting, same thing happens. I'm going to try creating a simple cube, saving, and opening it and seeing what happens.

Edit2: Everything works perfectly. This is Very strange indeed.

Edit3: Ok, I've discovered when it occurs. It's after I texture the poly I create. Creating the polygon doesn't break the save, but texturing it does. I'm unsure If I've done something wrong while texturing so that if I try adding any more textures anywhere it will crash, or if it's just something to do with this polygon. I've created new polygons and textured them with no problems before, so I guess I'll await any more help from you guys before I do anything else.

Edit4: I've made the change I talked about in Edit3, I froze all the transforms then saved and now it seems to work very well, will do further work and update this thread, I will still probably need help

Final Edit: Ok, it would appear that my problem is solved, I think too many unfrozen transforms was making XSI unable to load it all up.
