BF2 Update - Glitch?

Post by yukisuna »

Well, ive been playing this for 4 years, and updated many times... i never really thought about it before, but the games version stays 1.0, so i cant see map names, and dont get the tweaks and additions the patch gives... i recently downloaded the Hexed BF2_Modtools.exe and found out it acctually enables the update - i could see map names, including my own map, and in-game everything was much better... but in the bf2_modtools.exe i cant enlarge the screen, neither remove the Developer Console - and when i reinstalled the patch, i got a new BattlefrontII.exe, but it doesnt detect my CD... i found out LOTS of other people have the same problem, but i didnt find their solution... so, if you know anything about this, can you please post it here? thanks in advance. :)

EDIT: I didnt mean i wanted to make the bf2_modtools larger, i just said it wasnt possible, and because of that i cant use it to play Battlefront II with the patch Activated. I first tried installing the english-DVD version of the patch, with no change at all, except adding another 500 MB to my Battlefront Directory. Hurray, now it takes 10 gb...

i will try that solution service you found, Teancum, but im not shure if i got everything right about it... i'll try, anyways, and update with the results...

EDIT 2: Well, that solution is a little bit too complicated... re-installing battlefront, or installing some software, or... well, it just gets too complicated for me :( is there any way i can Hex the .exe to disable the cd check? currently im playing the game at school, with four of my friends... and they really love it, especcially the Jedi Assault mode, but in LAN, it doesnt visuably lag, not at my (the server) computer, but when they attack, their character will play the animation about 3 times before moving on to the next one - thereby, instead of 3-4 attacks in one combo, they get up to 20... making me unable to fight with swords... so, are you shure there is'nt ANY other way around that .exe diagnostics tool?

EDIT 3: Marvel4 - i never use the launcher anymore, found out i could play without my disc 3 1/2 years ago... but now, after i tried what you said, whenever i try to run the disc in the DVD drive, it says "No CD Detected. The launcher will now close." great. now i cant reinstall either. thank you for trying to help though, if i can repair the Disc Drive i'll try your solution Again.

EDIT 4: ok, dvd drive fixed. Teancum, do not think i didnt trust your solution - you are one of the two people here on gametoast i trust the most - but i was just excited to see my new level, and was looking for a fix that i could get very fast (like 5 min) i was over-exited. sorry, ive calmed down now, since yesterday. i'll try your solution. thank you for posting the link, maybe you should add that link to the FAQ or something? then people wont need to post a topic about it like i did. so, thanks for helping me (Again)! im pretty sure this will work. :D i'll post the result of the solution, then you can lock the topic.

I don't know if you can enlarge the bf2_modtools.exe; I don't really see much purpose in removing the green console across the top. It's a debugging tool; it's not meant to be seriously played.

If I'm understanding you right, the patches don't work for your main game?

You can't make the modtools exe go fullscreen, nor remove the green bar without the HUD disappearing to. See the topic below if you have a legit version of SWBF2 but after installing the patch the game says you have the wrong disc in.

My game also didn't work after I installed the patch. I did the following to get it to work:
-Install the game, start it (not the launcher) and then close it
-Install the patch and start it (again, not the launcher)

I can even run it without the DVD now.

Sounds for me as if you installed the wrong patch (as Teancum mentioned already).
Make sure that you download the correct version: http://www.lucasarts.com/support/update ... ront2.html
Ignore this when you're sure that you've got the right version and its caused by something different.^^

The SecuROM solution is actually quite simple and THE best way to clear up this situation permanently, I don't understand why some people are afraid of it.
With your SWBF2 disc in the drive and after installing the 1.1 patch you simply right click on the BattlefrontII.exe and select Launch Analysis from the context menu and a new window will open, click 'Yes' in this window then wait:

This window will open when the analysis is done, click 'Ok' to exit:

the AnalysisLog.sr0 file will be created here:
C:\AnalysisLog.sr0

Zip up the AnalysisLog.sr0 file and send it to SecuROM then they will analyze the file and send you a new 1.1 version BattlefrontII.exe via the email address that you provided and it'll work with your machine. This should take less than 24 hours during the 5 day work week.

Marvel4's method must be unique to his machine since i've never seen/heard of another case of this working. It just makes sense to contact SecuROM to sort this issue properly.
