I am a failure as a mapper.
If you're one to pay close attention to maps and their makers you would probably notice I have only ever released one map. That is because of the dozens of times I attempt to make one something goes freakishly wrong and I have to delete it. That one map I released was rated worst map ever because I couldn't get anything interesting to work without it going bust.
Aaand I want this to stop.
My newest map crashes after you spawn for apparently no reason and when running sptest it says something about not being able to open core.lvl. I'd been pestering L5 all morning about how I can fixe all the problems in my map but in the end came up with nothing.
I would think it was the water but I copied all effects, all the lines in the .req and .fx folders, and it still crashes. Also clone troopers feet sink into the floor of one of the floating buildings by a foot or two.

I can't map or mod or model or animate or ANYTHING!!! lol - but my opinion is wanted, and I know how to snipe in MP
I just want to say: EVEN if you NEVER finished a descent map yet - lol, I haven't even releaesd one yet, and I CAN'T go further then making the landscape form (which is JUST a hill, lol) I have problems with ALL, so you CANT be worst then me
Be a GT, and do what you can - for ALL players and members of SWBF

You're not alone, it goes wrong for me ALL the time. I should make a bloopers tape of all the dumb stuff I've seen in my tests.
Feet sinking into floor sounds like a collison mesh problem, which buildings are you using ? Water is tricky, there's a lot of stuff to copy and set up, but I don't think it would stop your core.lvl being opened. Does the munge actually make a new core.lvl when you run it ? Check the file creation time in windows explorer.

To me, modding is like painting. You can't expect to make the mona lisa on the first try, in fact you'll probably go through 12 canvases before you get even a stickman with a hat. The fact is that some would be modders out there can't even get their modding tools to work, be thankful you made it this far.

That what other people is here for. just post your problem here and those modders and mappers will help you to solve the problem. as you see all those thread, many people need help with maps, ao some of gamtoast helping people out like Saturn_V, Eddie, imp_strikeforce, MajinRaven, and others helping people. you dont have to delete those map, just post the problem or just use the map as a beta and let us test it out and give you feedback about it

DeathT: You can't beta test these maps because you can't play them because they crash after 1 second, if they even load at all.
I know mapping is hard and I wasn't expecting to get it on first try, but for some things I go through it all over and over again and just can't find the problem. The building I'm using btw is the kamino building. Maybe because it's so high up is why there feet are in there. before I changed the flyheight everything was so high I jumped and died.

lol - I ACTUALLY gope to make "a mona lisa" in my first try, because I had SO many ideas. lol - I can't go further then making the landscape, because I CANT EVEN ADD OBJECTS!!! lol, and I can't add CP's - LOL!!!

On a serious note, I'm currently having a devil of a time trying to make all my vehicle sounds work (some do, some don't). I know what to do and what to check, but nothing seems to work. But one thing do I have: confidence that it is just a matter of time before I get it. It always happens eventually. Just gotta keep at it with an open mind, and ask a lot of questions.

Well imma stop deleting maps but I just can't get it to work, and I have another idea. I'm probably just going to have an increasing pile of non working maps in my bfbuilder folder and I'll go back to them another time.
Oh and to your first post, I didn't mean I jumped off the place, I mean i jumped while in the building, hit my head off the height barier and died. If I'd jumped off the platform I'd be jelly before I hit the ground XD.

One method to try is to create a map that is just a test map. Try your buildings, vehicles , etc. out on it one at a time before you add them to your main map. get it to work there and you will stop having to erase maps. MANY times my maps crash for no apparent reason, at first. I started testing stuff before placing it in my map and it has helped. Also if you have a test map with nothing on it, your munge and testing time gets cut way down.
Some buildings have no collision parameters in the mesh file because they were never intended to be viewd or traveled upon from that angle. For instance the big dome for the main CP in Kamino. The hallways are a completely different msh and object. If you place the dome on your map it looks like a dome from the outside and is solid, but is transparent and can be moved and shot through from the inside. Check the way they were used on the original map they came from and if they aren't supposed to be traveled upon, there is your problem. You can use the legos to build a floor for the building. Change the texture for the lego to the texture that the building uses. Just one of the options you can do.
Sound was a pain in the butt for me. I finally got it straightened out. Follow Fred's instructions. read the threads on his site. When I was doing sound I found that having the WRONG entries in the sound fx files would cause a crash. Again, a test map is the way to go for that.
Post here and be patient. you may not get an answer right away. But we are all here to help.

Well that's kinda the point of this thread, to see if anyone cna figure out exactly what is wrong, and for help.
But I just KNOW it's the water. I shwear. Every time I make a map, even the simple build a map in 10 steps, I'll add a puddle to it and it stops working. I'm going to try and take it out and try again.
Also if anyone can tell me how to make a map like Bespin Platforms it would help with my next map. For some reason I can't find the right texture/colour combo for the ground.

He also said that several times on MSN till I think I clubbed him with something though.
Only problem I have now with maps is AI. I've read stuff on psych0fred's forum but it sill makes no sense to me and it's pretty important in the maps I have planned(I have my confidence back. Mapping spree wee)
