Changing file extensions on Vista [Solved]

Post by Darth_Spiderpig »

I wondered this for a while now, but never thought it matters enough to post or search, so I never did.

Search didn't provide anything on the matter, so I wonder if anyone knows how to change file extensions on Vista.

Problem is, I have a file in a format I can't read (actually doesn't exist), so I used to rightclick on it and select rename and added .msh for example, but now only the filename is changed, not the extension.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Well, Rep's Meshtool saves files as .m5h, and I want to make it msh :P

Do you see the file extension or are they hidden? AFAIK you cant change them if theyre hidden.

Actually, they are hidden, does this mean I have to find someone to rename the extension everytime I want to use a mesh edited with meshtool? :(

I'm at an XP computer right now, so Vista is probably a little different, but on this one to show extensions you click Tools > Folder Options > View. Then there's a long list of check boxes, on my screen, the last visible one without scrolling down is "Hide extensions for known filetypes." Make sure its is unchecked.
