Buzz Droids
During Episode III buzz droids appeared during one scene but they made quite an impact on the ships they latched onto. The Buzz Droids were launched from the rockets after they passed the starfighter and began tearing it apart upon impact.

I'm wondering if something like this would be possible to mod in Star Wars Battlefront II.
1. Rockets fly past the starfighters and explode launching buzz droids
2. Launched buzz droids attach to hard points on the various starships (Like fire or smoke)
3. Buzz Droids begin to lower the health of the starfighters emitting sparks (I can do that)

Re: Buzz Droids
You know what, you aren't too far off from the way I think it could be done. Here's how I believe it would work:
-Missile explodes into chunks after a certain time interval, the chunks looking like the buzz droid balls.
-Have the explosion ordnance be an emmiter ordnance, with smolder in effect.
-Have a smoldering effect on the ship in the shape of buzz droids (effects can be objects, as evidenced by the force pummel attack in Dark Times)

Re: Buzz Droids
either way it wouldnt be perfect, it would have obvious imperfections. But it would be pretty darn cool if you got this working, good luck!

Smolderlike weapons don't work on vehicles if I recall correctly.

Re: Buzz Droids
Can you alter the health of a vehicle via LUA? Then you could write some simple code to create smolder-type damage.

Re: Buzz Droids
Yeah probably. You could add an effect of buzz droids flying around the vehicle as well.

Re: Buzz Droids
Would it be possible to make a sticky bomb that looks like a
buzz droid and lasts for about 6 seconds then explodes for
vehicles (I know it would work for infantry)?

Re: Buzz Droids
Totally, just make it a sticky grenade that sticks to vehicles.

Re: Buzz Droids
I had an idea like this awhile back, but I don't know if it's possible:
What about a missile, that uses a buzz droid model and, on impact, slowly wears down the health of a starfighter/bomber/ect.?

If Marth is right you could launch a buzz droid out of your vehicle (for infantry thisMarth8880 wrote:Totally, just make it a sticky grenade that sticks to vehicles.
will work 100%) that will stick onto your opponents vehicle then explode after some time.
Even though it will not give damage every second it will end up giving the same amount
after the six (or how many you want) seconds (in other words it will be on your vehicle for
a while then when it dies it gives damage).

Re: Buzz Droids
Or, you could make it have additional explosions, which would make it cause incremental damage over time.

Re: Buzz Droids
Actually, instead of sticky grenades, you could use a beacon - yes, they can stick onto things, and you can just make the aim distance like 1.0 or 0.1 or something - that fires an emitter ordnance that deals smolder damage!

Well Glitch, you got the majority of us thinking about it...and your info on how to create a mod like this is sound!

Unless you mean the repeated impact of multiple bolts appearing like smolder damage?THEWULFMAN wrote:Smolderlike weapons don't work on vehicles if I recall correctly.
Heh, do orbital strikes work in space? No technical reason why they shouldn't, I guess. Kind of odd, though.

Re: Buzz Droids
Sticky Grenade seems to be the best way of doing it. I could use "com_weap_veh_fly_torpedo" to have them be lockable. They launch in their compressed mode and upon impact they unfold and adhere to the ship. As Willinator suggested they could cause incremental damage over time. Instead of explosions effect I could simply use the spark effect. After their lifespan expires they disappear. I really appreciate all the feedback guys, incredibly helpful!
I think it should be relatively easy to create the odf for this, I'll see what I can do. The hardest part would be creating the buzz droid model. Loopy53 would you be up to the challenge? (Doesn't need to be this detailed)

Re: Buzz Droids
I might be interested in making the model. The texture, on the other hand, would have to come from somewhere else. I'll see what I can do - no promises that it will look exceptional!

Re: Buzz Droids
That'd be great! After the model is completed I'll try and find someone who can texture it. As long as the player can tell it is a buzz droid from a distance and it is close to scale I'll use it.CressAlbane wrote:I might be interested in making the model. Re: Buzz Droids
If its not close to scale you can scale it with a msh.option file.

Re: Buzz Droids
If you want to drop more than one at a time add these lines to the weapon odf:
Just change SalvoCount to the amount wanted
Code: Select all
SalvoCount = "1"
SalvoDelay = "0.0"
InitialSalvoDelay = "0.51"
SalvoTime = "0.0"-

Re: Buzz Droids
Model is mostly done; I just need to do the legs. The only problem I forsee is using a different model between the in-flight ordnance and the stuck-on ordnance.
EDIT: I'll probably be able to texture it myself; would you prefer a scheme like the reference you posted or the more Separtist-y colors shown in the movie/other pictures?
EDIT2: Does this look good enough for you?
