These may not deserve a topic of their own, but meh....

I have figured out how to make a fully fubctional portable shield generator. You place it, it deploys its shield, you can stand inside the shield and use it for protection (so can others). The shield is 2.75s the size of the droideka's shield.
I've also figured out how to make cluster bombs and gas canisters that work. The cluster bomb is just like a normal grenade, but the main explosion is smaller and it launches 11 mini-grenades when it explodes. The gas canister is a normal grenade, but when it explodes it does very little damage but poisons all those within its radius.
There's one more weapon using a similar method, but its (a) a force power and (b) a secret for now.

Progress:
PSG - works perfectly, need a better prop as the generator (currently using the ball turret)
CB – works! Hurray!
GC – works! Hurray!

Will be released for pubic use as assets once done.

I am in the process of making a shield bubble generator for my map I'm making. If you like, we can do a trade where you give me the odf's (which I was too lazy to make :lol: ) and I can give you the model.

I like the poison grenade idea btw. A lot of people will use that, I'm sure

yep. Ill get it up in a bit. Shouldn't take long. There's a few things I need to fix though, but they're minor issues that will take maybe thirty seconds each.

edit: Huh. I made the mistake of merging my model to get it ingame, so I can't edit it anymore. If you're willing to wait a little longer, I can make a new (and better) one. Not that hard of a model, really. If you need one soon, I can post a pic, but it's not as good as I thought it was.

edit: here's my newer, but untextured version based off the Halo bubble shield:

I tried something similar to to your shield thing. I had seen something like it in a SW mod video for some game.

It was a object the consisted of a half circle ring, which had a half dome out the top of it. This dome was made transparent in the texture, but still had collision for everything except weapons fire. The model also had a few wires and such going to a battery pack thing.

Anyway, the whole concept being that once a unit deployed the model, it would have a sheild on it, and the non visible dome like the space ship's shield. 2-3 units could crouch behind and shoot around this shield for some added protection. but once the shield failed, all weapons fire would pass right through the dome making it useless.

Shame that never worked. :| It always fell through the ground when I tried to use it.

Glad someone got around to making a good working one, does the shield stay active until it loses energy? I know previous attempts where not as successful because the "turret" would "fire" the shield weapon and thus it would turn on and off.

I also tried to make a cluster bomb once, failed. When you release it, I think I'll be able to find a few uses for it too. :wink:

Ya know, you could prolly retexture the shield and make it yellow and covered with hexagons, and when silas sends you it, voila, halo bubble shield for SWBFII! And cluster grenades, yay!

Isn't it possible to make the shield impervious to attacks but able to pass through for units? that way you wouldn't need an overheat or ammo, only tactics (sorry too much Empire at War).

For the cluster grenade - are you using an effect to simulate ordnances emitted by an explosion?

It's like the Fake Console. With it you can change it so you can walk through hangar shields, and fire still can't go through. It's all in the odf for the shield.

Well, I couldn't texture the bubble shield emitter in time. I have to go to a wedding, and I'll be staying overnight at a hotel(even though it's only 45 minutes away :? ). I don't now when I'll be back tommorrow, but that's the earliest I can finish it.

Caleb: yep, it works the same way as the second shield turret you mentioned, but with a few handy lines of ODF code I found completely by accident.
ARC_Commander: ever played worms? the cluster bomb works like that. Throw grenade, grenade explodes and at the same time launches a bunch of minigrenades.
Silas: Model looks great.
Obiboba3po: yeah, I need to do that. So hard to choose what weapons to give him though. At the moment I reckon Disc Gun or Crossbow, Gas Canister x2, Nuclear Strike x1. Whaddya reckon?

Yes, I know how a cluster bomb works. I'm asking - how are you actually getting the explosion to emit ordnances? Have you figured out something in the ODF, or is it just an illusion of ordnances, provided by an effect?
