See through terrain
I've wondered this for a while, but how would I make terrain that doesn't show? I want to have a part of the map with terrain, but the other without so I can see the sky below, and if I turn terrain off, then the part I want visible dissapears! Help!

Re: See through terrain
Select the terrain on the terrain you want gone at the right side of the screen. Then right click over everywhere you don't want terrain. If there are multiple layers, then go through all of them.

But if there is no terrain it turns out black.

By no terrain, do you mean no texture? There's a difference between no terrain and no texture. For most video cards, if there is no texture on the terrain, then it turns all black (for me it's white due to my 64MB video card, lmao). I think there's a button on the top right side of ZE that allows you to toggle ingame terrain, water, and foliage. That might do it for you.
EDIT: Oh, I see what you're doing. I'm not sure if that's possible, though.

Re: See through terrain
It's not possible unfortunately. If you erase the terrain it turns either black or white depending on the video card. Alpha channels won't work either, as that's used for details.

Re: See through terrain
You could try using a terrain cutter, and the put an invisible column under it to stop people from falling through. This of course depends on how big of an area you are talking about.

Can't you just delete the .ter file? like space maps?

Re: See through terrain
The only probelm with deleting that file is that all the terrain dissapears. What about those textures like brown dust, where it puts a bit of texture, but the rest it see through. Would that work?

Re: See through terrain
No texture methods will work. Creating an invisible terrain cutter like FragMe said is the only way. And as he said it depends on how big he wants it.

Re: See through terrain
I had problems with terrainmunge.exe crashing when trying to munge with a large terraincutter in an object, the object was a Core ship silo like in Ep2 on Geonosis where the Core ships were docked, terrainmunge.exe just couldn't cope with it, so I had to scrap the idea of Core ships taking off from inside the silos.
When the silo containing the terraincutter was scaled down it munged fine though, but then it was too small and therefore useless.

Re: See through terrain
Well, the area is HUGE, so I may just need to add a whole bunch of fog or dust, which wasn't what I wanted to do, but oh, well.
Thanks. This can be locked unless someone has an idea.

Re: See through terrain
Can't you make an invisible texture and save it as a .ter, or whatever format it needs to be?
I have an invisible .tga here

*Edit* It just turns out white, I guess thats what you were talking about Tean. Sorry
Ha ha it snows on Geonosis!
