"Everyday gamers can get a shot at making cross-platform PC, Xbox 360 games with XNA Game Studio; company envisions user-created games as "fully realized" as Halo 2." -GS.com
Im not sure it this should go here or not but I thnk this is way cool. Its about Mcirosoft's new game design software thats acessible to pretty much everyone.

RE: Microsoft unveils
Wow. I'm shocked and amazed. I can't wait to try it out. Maybe Gametoast would host it? Just an ideal. And Jawa Elite maybe brought back.
I'm totally excited. Great find Yoyam!
EDIT: I searched on Mircosoft.com and found this...

RE: Microsoft unveils
I am definately going to download this if I can get the...stupid......link..to....grrrrrrrr....WORK.
Ok so the link isnt working for me but I have looked up alot of stuff about it and apperently from everone hwo has used it its just awesome, and to further stimulate its realease they have released the source code to MechCommander 2, the entire complete source code. Thats awesome. I can only imagine what people are gonna do with that.
Seriously though, GT should make a game, im serious, we could all work our way through XNA all at the same time and make something awesome. Seems like XNA and like products are where the industry is heading anyways. If some dudes in garages made Counterstrike, I think we can make something thats at least worth playing. I would do it if anyone wants to help me, from what ive heard its not only a powerful tool, but an intuitive one. I cant wait to get myu hands on it.

RE: Microsoft unveils
Woh, this sounds awesome. I've downloaded the link and can get ARM Explorer to run, but I can't find anything to do with MechCommander 2. I guess I'll just keep looking.
Edit: I've been looking at the XNA forums and found that they've disabled the link to MechCommander 2, so no one can get to it at the moment. The link is here:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid= ... lcid=0x409
Unfortunately it will redirect you to the XNA homepage, so for the moment it seems that we can't look at it's source code.
Hopefully they'll have it back up shortly.

RE: Microsoft unveils
Off-topic : I do not want to sound too much Pessimistic, but according to what I may have read about Microsoft® XNA, attempting to take advantage out of most of the Resources and Functionalities this Centralized Tool will ship with will require certain Knowledges in manipulating some Programming Languages, and that's why having learnt and mastered a few ones should not be that unhelpful while exploring the Options proposed by this Software. Above all, I seriously doubt Microsoft® would eventually accept to release publicly this same Program and its embedded Source Files, and in order to justify this Speculation, I would want you not to forget that Microsoft® Windows Vista has followed a comparable Path so far before ceasing to be free of charges once its "CTP" Variants will have all entirely expired, which should not last any longer...

RE: Microsoft unveils
If I just understood you correctly Leviathan, Microsoft have already said that they will release a free version that everyone may use, as well as a "premium" version that costs $100 dollars a year (I think). So maybe they won't release the source files for 'anybody' XNA (or were you talking about the MechCommander 2 source files?), but I'm pretty sure that they will continue to make it accessible to everybody. Microsoft's aim in releasing this program is to hire "fresh blood" and make more universities teach 'game-making'. Indeed, many universities have already agreed to use this program to do so. If you were actually talking about MechCommander 2 then I agree with you. Microsoft won't let that link stay active forever. Why would they, after all, give away a free game for everybody?

RE: Microsoft unveils
Off-topic : Uploading Resources belonging or administrated by Microsoft Corporation® or comparable Companies must not be considered without having received Explicit Authorizations and Licenses allowing you to proceed so, and that's why you will have to request the Support of an around GameToast member so as to obtain the concerned Program through YouSendIt©, Savefile©, FilesPoint© or similar Online Locations, unless you would prefer awaiting for this same Software to be published and made freely available onto Mirror Servers, and since this Product should become rather considered within the weeks to come, then I would rather suggest picking up this last Possibility, except whether you would wish to try your hand at Microsoft® XNA as soon as possible...

RE: Microsoft unveils
No way in heck I'm gonna figure this out, but I'm gonna give it a go.
That's awesome, though...
Shouldn't this belong in Off-Topic, though, since it isn't about a game or even a serious of games?

RE: Microsoft unveils
Off-topic : Actually, the thread you are currently watching is sharing too many Common Points with Entertainment Softwares we have all heard about to be transferred towards the "Off-Topic..." GameToast sub-forum, and for that reason, I have preferred leaving it over its current and most suitable Location for self-evident Reasons. Above all, do not forget that a Specialized Program comparable to Microsoft® XNA could lead to the upcoming spreading and release of Video Games having been developped, optimized and compiled through this same Integrated Development Environment, which has incidentally implies looking upon this Coding Environment as being way far from other Devisings argued about inside this Section could not have been considered, and I greatly hope you will eventually figure out and accept the Arguments having forced me to keep this topic into its actual Place...
