How to give soldiers "packs"

Post by Jawaraider »

Is there any way to give for example the rep_inf_ep3_sniper the jetpack model on the back without the jumping ability? There is nothing in the odf about packs, they seem to be a part of the model. Does anyone know the answer to this? The faq says nothing and the search didn't find anything either.

You would have to edit or create a new mesh.

Making a new model? Sounds a bit difficult.

Can't you add an addon msh with the odf? I thought that was possible. Anyway, maybe you could hex edit the model, and add the jetpack the same way you would add animated cloth. There's a tut for that somewhere.

I don't think so. You can call for it that way in the ODF but it requires a hardpoint somewhere in that area I believe.

There are hardpoints all over the skeleton, but it doesn't matter anyway. The addon mesh can be adjusted in XSI (if you're making an addon mesh, it's as though the bone/hp you're attaching it to is at 0,0,0).

Well, unless you use a hardpoint made for the purpose, you're going to see problems with animation on soldier models, especially if you're just offsetting the addon mesh from the dummyroot. It won't move with the soldier's back, fr starters, because the dummyroot doesn't move with the soldier's back.
