Munged Core.lvl doing strange things

Post by cjs283 »

Sorry if this sounds like the question of a newb thats in over his head. I used the instructions given in the wiki to munge a new core.lvl so that I could use my new unit names (made using editlocalize) on all maps. I copied the core.lvl from lvl_pc in my map directory and replaced the core.lvl in my game directory. It worked fine and changed the unit names the way I expected it to, but when each level loads there is a loud sound that sounds like entering a vehicle, and then a continous sound that sounds like a fusioncutter which does not go away. I'm probably just missing a file that the core.req is looking for or something, but I'm confused about which it would be. If anyone could offer any help I'd appreciate it.

Yeah, the mod tools didn't come with all the things required to munge a new core.lvl that replaces the old one.

Did you actually replace it? Or did you backup the old Core.lvl?

I backed up the old one to be safe. But I was under the impression that the game's core.lvl could be replaced with a munged one if the core.req is modified in the way shown in the wiki. Wasn't that the point to that guide?

The one in the Wiki should be the closest we have to a mod version of the game's core.lvl.

Also, make sure the core.lvl in your addme mod maps isn't the same as the new core.lvl you made. The maps use a different core.lvl than the main game.

I removed the map's folder from the addon directory to make sure its own core.lvl wouldn't interfere, I wasn't using it as an actual map anyway. It's obviously a weird sound problem, since that is the only thing I've found wrong (everything else works fine) and I've also noticed that the sounds when pressing buttons in the main menu are gone. What sound files are supposed to be referenced by the core.req? If I don't have them in the right folder before munging that might be causing the problem.

I get the following error message whenever I munge with "sound" checked, in case it has anything to do with it.

soundflmunge.exe : Error : Unable to open file effects\whooshl3.wav - while munging C:\BF2_ModTools\data_MOD\Sound\shell\shell.sfx

I finally figured it out. I was missing the file global.config from the config folder. It seems to work fine now. Thank you for the help.
