Change F buttons text (e.g. F5)

Post by _DeltaForce_ »

Is it possible to change the text shown up when I press - e.g. - the F5 key while playing online?
I tried to change it in the core.lvl with a Hex editor but the game crashed - obviously it's checking it's file on startup. Can - and if yes, how - this be accomplished?
And if it's possible, will the changed text show up on the screen of other people when I press F5 online?

Would be pleased of any help :)

i know this can be done on mod maps using a localizer but i never really have seen a way to get a replacement mod that is online compatable and replaces the core.lvl

No, they would need to have the same files as you do.

Oh, Diet Dr. Pepper... I forgot this question (was for someone else).

Thanks for the answers! A clear 'no' is a good thing :D (Although a 'yes' is even better :P)

So online the game transmitts only the information which key is pressed by some user and not the whole text? That's logical in some way... saving bandwidth.
Again tanks for the answers :)

Im pretty sure you can hexedit your team chat commands without getting a crash. and if you did other people playing should be able to see your commands

No, if that were true I would be able to see other's commands in German, Spanish, etc., which never happens.

Hmmm... even if other people would see my changed commands - how to hexedit it without getting a crash? Did you tried it for yourself?
