X-fire Live Broadcasting

Post by RevanSithLord »

Okay, I'd say this would go into media, since broadcasting stuff like games would be media. Okay, I don't know how many people here have me on X-fire, but I thought it'd be cool to do something such as Live Broadcasting - such as - live Let's Plays....or something. Maybe GT people could do some cool events? I dunno. Just something that went through my head after stopping my broadcast.

At around 1 AM, a friend of mine, Superphrog, told me I should do a Live Broadcast of Fallout 3. I'm like: ...hmm, okay... so I did. I only expect him to be the only viewer, but I got up to 9 viewers, astoundingly. I was only happy for just him to be there, but I did not expect for a whole crowd to watch me play my modded Fallout 3. I personally think it's really cool. Sure, it's not the best idea. It's been done before, but I think something for this, for GT, would be awesome. Sure, the quality's not all that great either. Sometimes, people lag behind the action due to timezones. But I think it's great for live commentaries. Like, live shows and stuff, but on the internet. Downsides -- ad supported. Sometimes, ads interrupt people who are trying to watch the player. I can see why they do it, since it keeps that stuff free. Understandable, right?

Anyways, feel free to post opinions here. I didn't know much about X-fire's other abilities. I knew about the recording stuff, but I was unaware that it had live broadcast on it, so, forgive if I'm pointing out something that lots of people already know about.

Anyways, later, folks. Just wanted feedback on possible ideas. :)

Yeah, i used this function sometimes to show friend's my work, and sometimes when I play My Geo map to look for bugs, I just activate it and see how many would watch...and commentaries flew in like "awesome, where to get it???" or "that's not Battlefront O.o"

but yeah, the lag is sometimes a bit...you know what I mean.
BTW, if anyone is interested, I'll start a broadcast for Landing at Point Rain now. :D

Aww. I was asleep at that time. lol But whenever you broadcast something again, lemme know. It's an interesting feature, and if the lag issue can be fixed somehow, that'd be awesome. Instant viewing -- and preferably no 'commercials', but instead little ads on the side or top that you can easily minimize, which would still somehow let broadcasting be free - but I don't think . But, eh. There's room for improvement in a lot of places.

But, it'll have to do, right?

You could try out Ustream Producer.

Cost-free, commercial-free, but it's harder to get viewers.... You'd need to spread the word about your stream channel in order to get viewers rather than having people who play your game get a little heads up from Xfire. It's darn-near lag free for screen capture broadcasts, too.

If you want the screen capture feature, you're going to have to download their Producer program. It's still free, but its another thing you have to download and install... Otherwise it'll just use your webcam to show a broadcast of your face while you're playing...
