Dedicated server won't show up
When I host my dedicated server, it won't show up on Battlefront 2. Anyone know how to fix this?

Things to ask yourself:redgroupclan wrote:When I host my dedicated server, it won't show up on Battlefront 2. Anyone know how to fix this?
-Did I forward ports 3658 and 4658?
-Do I know how to forward ports?
-Did I make sure that the minimum player filter is set to 0?
-Did I set "Server Type" to "Internet"?
-Is my dedicated server hosted on a connection that is not shared or bridged with the computer I am trying to join it on?
-Am I using Black Bag Ops Server Manager to run the server?
-Did I read through Black Bag Ops Server Manager's PDF guide?

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
here is my probably not helpful post but at least it has a chance: Are you sure it is 1.1 server or a 1.0 if you have the 1.1 patch (which u do i saw you) did you must make sure you are hosting a 1.1 version of the server (or does it do that automatically...)

Actually, I run my dedicated server off of the exact same comp I play it on, I can join it just fine.Marth8880 wrote: -Is my dedicated server hosted on a connection that is not shared or bridged with the computer I am trying to join it on?
The main thing I'd look into is your firewall, make sure the server manager has an exception and has access.

I used to do the same, and yes, it does work.Twilight_Warrior wrote:Actually, I run my dedicated server off of the exact same comp I play it on, I can join it just fine.

1 & 2. I've never messed with any sort of port thing before and I was able to see the server just fine...Marth8880 wrote: -Did I forward ports 3658 and 4658?

3. I had the minimum players filter set to 1 before and I was able to see the server.
4. Yes.
5. I used to host and play the server on the same computer and never had any problems.
6. Yes.
7. I looked through it, but I don't think it has anything that applies to my situation.
All the versions match up correctly, as far as I know. I haven't messed with anything.Dakota wrote:here is my probably not helpful post but at least it has a chance: Are you sure it is 1.1 server or a 1.0 if you have the 1.1 patch (which u do i saw you) did you must make sure you are hosting a 1.1 version of the server (or does it do that automatically...)
Yeah, server manager has an exception.Twilight_Warrior wrote:The main thing I'd look into is your firewall, make sure the server manager has an exception and has access.
Around the time we got a bunch of anti-malware programs was the time I couldn't see the server anymore. Could the anti-malware programs possibly have anything to do with it?

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
Then there's what is likely to be your problem. Add an exception for Server Manager and its ports in your anti-malware programs' incoming & outgoing connections exception lists.redgroupclan wrote:Around the time we got a bunch of anti-malware programs was the time I couldn't see the server anymore. It lets me browse through my drives and so on to locate programs I want to have an exception for, and I'm not sure where the ports would be located...

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
Sorry for bumping an over-30-day-old topic, but I'm still having trouble.
Isn't port forwarding for routers only? I don't use a router for my Internet connection.
I've tried adding application exceptions to every security program I have, I've tried adding every port listed on the Server Manager to firewall exceptions, and I've tried reinstalling Server Manager, but the server still won't show up for me on the servers list.

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
What brand and model modem do you have? Many have router functionality built in now, even if they only have one ethernet port. As far as I'm aware, you shouldn't need to port forward to run a server though. If you have the Windows firewall on and have another software one running, try disabling the Windows firewall. I've read about a few cases where this was the problem. One more question, what are your anti-malware programs? As far as I'm aware if you have more than one installed they can conflict with each other...

The modem is an AT&T 2Wire I think. I just tried disabling Windows Firewall, but the server still didn't show up.sim-al2 wrote:What brand and model modem do you have? As of now, I'm running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Super Anti-Spyware, and avast! Does anyone know of some way to temporarily disable a program in XP? I've already tried to disable them through the services route, but I can't tell which services they use.

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
Do you have the actual server program (Battlefront2.exe) in the exceptions for all of those too? I saw you have the server manger already but I don't know if it actually accesses the internet at all.

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
The bottom line is the server manager is not made for just anyone to use on their personal PC's. It is meant for hosting companies with specialized computers and networks. You're better off paying a small price tag for a server that will be lag free, and won't be hard on your computer to play and host at the same time. I refer you to https://artofwarcentral.com/ - What I use. It is relatively cheap and has great customer support.
I noticed you are on the GMRZ forums. You might want to see if they will give you a server. :)

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
I remember somewhere he did state that he would only be interested in a paid server if there was enough people to cause lag problems. Also, while it's true the dedicated server was meant for high bandwidth commercial networks, the server is a fairly lightweight application and I don't see why you can't run your own server at home, considering that most servers are lucky to get more than a few people.fasty wrote:The bottom line is the server manager is not made for just anyone to use on their personal PC's. Re: Dedicated server won't show up
Yeah, I'll probably end up paying for one once I have a job in a year.
But that's a year away, so I need to find out what's wrong with my computer now. The only thing that I can think of that's left to do is uninstall the anti-malware programs one at a time.
EDIT: I have officially tried everything I can think of. I've removed both anti-malware programs from my computer, added 3 port exceptions for the 3 ports that are given to me on the server manager (trying them all as TCP and then UDP), and still the server will not show up!

You were on it before I started having the problem.
Dakota just raised the point that it might just be only servers hosted with the server manager that I can't see. He thought of this after we arranged to meet in his server, but I couldn't see his server.

Re: Dedicated server won't show up
Do you have your filter set so you can see PC Dedicated servers? It should be the top right grey box. You can choose either "All", "PC", or "PC Dedicated" server types.
