first of all, the best way to edit unit skins is to edit the .tga. You'll need the BFBuilder Pro to import sides. You'll need Internet Explorer to dowload it at secret society.com. If you already have it, then the
DDS Converter will help. Just convert the .tga to a .bmp and edit it with paint, then, convert it back to a .tga and your all set!

Although I would suggest a program like Gimp instead of paint, then you don't need to convert it to .bmp
And Gimp is superior to paint.

Gimp does let you save your work. As long as you compiled it properly (pre compiled versions are still good) and didnt screw up the source.
Paint.NET plain out sucks for skin modding.

Use the GIMP I guess. Whenever I tried to save it a message popped up and said, you do not have the rights to save this file.

all u need to do to save is select the file right click then un-check "read only" hit apply, THEN edits and save ur file. Then right click properties on the edited tga and check "read only" hit apply and ur set!
