Invisible objects/props

Post by jojo3450 »

I put Objects in zeroedit and in game it is invisible until I come close
so how can I fix it is it a .sky file problem Or do I need to make a _lowrez.msh file?
thanks

If by "close" you mean ~100 feet, then yes you need to give it a lowrez mesh. Look at pretty much any stock building or prop for an example of what that looks like in an odf. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure the line is GeometryLowRes = "mymesh". And make sure mymesh.msh is in your msh folder. It doesn't have to be named mymesh_lowrez or mymesh_low. It can even be a totally unrelated model but that will look messed up. My point is that the name doesn't need _low at the end.

On the other hand, if the object is invisible from a very long distance (say, 500 feet or so) then yes, you need to tweak your sky file range settings.

ok thanks
1. Ok so I looked at the stock props and non have GeometryLowRes but the units do have them
2. ok so if I wanted the low res to be the same as the regular non-lowres do I put the same .msh
3. can you check if it is "GeometryLowRes" because I tried it but it didnt work
4. other stock buildings that are further away can be seen?

1. Some stock items don't have it. Try checking something big from an outdoor map, like a Kashyyyk bungalow or something. I'm not at home right now so I can't check for you.
2. Yes.
3. When I get home. Sorry.
4. Mhm. I'm telling you there is an odf parameter for it because I know for a fact that there is - my last map used a ton of custom objects and I had to make a lowrez model for each one and enter the name of that geometry into the odf. Check back in an hour and I'll have an exact answer for you, or just be more thorough in searching through the stock stuff, I know it's in there.

Edit: I'm very sorry. I was getting units and props mixed up. Props do not have the lowrez line in their odf. You are right. To get low-resolution geometry for a prop you need to include that in the actual model itself. So you'll want to focus on getting ZETools working at this point.
