How to hex edit map lvls
I want to put the 212th attack battalion on scum/strikes utapau (just using this as example because i want to edit other maps too)

It's not the maps that need hexing, just the mission.lvls, and in this case you can just build a new one from scratch if you own the Mod Tools (it's just a standard mission file when last I checked)

What about the big core lvl can a new one be made or is it to long and complicated to bother?

Custom maps come with their own CORE.LVL, and they don't use the main one at all. The custom core.lvl in these maps are easy to rebuild if you know how to and what to add. Here is the tut on localizing:

How can you name command posts of maps that you do not have the original assets for?

In that case, use a hex editor to view the CP names. Search for "com_bldg_controlzone" in the editor. Then copy the CP name (usually "cp" followed by a number (such as "cp1", or more commonly the label itself will be "cp1Label"), sometimes by a name, ie "cpplaza)
