Skinning problem

Post by obiboba3po »

I am having trouble skinning characters. Specifically, I would like to re-skin the droid marine and then save it as something different, and then be able to play as this character on the CIS. I have read many guides on how to do this but all of them say something different. Could someone please teach me how to do this? Thanks!

Get gimp, open up the tga file for whatever you would like to skin and then modify it/ color it.

If you have gimp click open. Then go into the msh floder of your side. Find a tga that you would like to skin then click open.

Edit:
when you have finished you may save it over that file or rename it. Then whenever you want to replace the skin you rename the new one you have to the name of the original tga. Then you overwrite the original, but be sure to make backups of the original.

ok, thanks, I will try this. However, some of the tga files have a checkered board pattern over them. What is this?

That is transparancy, go to color tools --> levels --> select alpha in the drop down box and move the lowest white arrow to the black one to get rid of it

Ok, I tried what you said to do The_emperor, and it should ahve worked, but it didn't. I went into the color tools levels, moved the white arrow on top of the black arrow, and pressed ok. Nothing happens. So I went back to the color levels, and the white arrow was back to where it started. IN other words, I cannot permanently adjust the color levels or get rid of the checkerboard thing. How do I do this?

i might be wrong, but i think the problem is how you saved it. when you save, do "save as"
instead of just "save". tell it you want to replace it, and a little box will pop up. it will have an thing that says RLE compression. uncheck it, and hit ok.

Thank you sooo much!!!!! That actually worked for me!!! :D :D :D

Ok, I saved the skin over top of the old one using save as and now the map is just as messed up as ever. First of all, the new skin doesnt show up. Second of all, you cannot select to play as the cis, for somereason, it is always the republic. What happened here?
