Issue with 1.1 patch, 1.3 patch, and BF1 Conversion

Post by Kobalt »

Well, I have an irritating problem. BF2 works on my laptop at the moment, but only in the vanilla form. See, I'm trying to install the BF1 map conversion, so I needed to install the unoficial 1.3 patch, which reccomends installing the 1.1 patch. So I do that and the game brings up a message about inserting the correct CD/DVD. I have disk one in the drive (legal disk, got it in Australia, patched 1.1 with international version) so I have no idea why its doing that. I unistall, reinstall, then ignore 1.1 and do the 1.3 patch. The game plays, I have the new options and stuff, as well as the BF1 maps I added. However, any time I play a game with the new faction or on a new map, it loads, goes dark, then exits. Even playing the existing factions causes the game to crash, eg. putting cursor over the Republic icon when deciding my faction at the start of a game. Uninstalling the 1.3 did nothing.

Sorry for making it so long, but the more detail the better. But basically, how do I get the 1.1 to install properly or how do I prevent the game from crashing if I skip to 1.3?

Have you tried redownloading both the patches and the Convo pack? It might not have downloaded correctly, and if you haven't already tried, its worth a go.

If v1.3 failed to install correctly, it will most likely fail to uninstall correctly as well. What version of Windows are you using? XP, Vista, 7?

For the v1.1 patch, try the different versions to see if any of them work. You can also look at the version switchers tools. Some of them bundle a 1.1 version of BattlefrontII.exe without the cd/dvd check.

The insert correct disk error thing you are getting is probably the securom copyright thing which doesn't like certain DVD drives. I am assuming you have the DVD version of the game.
What program do you run to start up the game. There are two files that will run the game one where you get all the intro movie stuff and another one that is just called swbattlefrontii.exe (if memory serves correctly) the second one I mentioned doesn't necessarily look for the DVD I know because I have at times removed the game disc for some reason or another and still can run the game.

If that doesn't work then there is a securom site that should be able to help you get rid of that error.
