Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
I tested my wld file in a new world, it's not the problem. I'm guessing the CW_Ships.lyr is the one with the problem. I'll go looking through it soon.

Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
Wait, how many objects can be placed in a map before it can't handle any more objects?

I don't know but its a poly limit, not an object limit.

Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
~1000 placed objects. The exact number before things start failing does depend on the complexity of the objects though.

Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
Thanks Firefang and sim-al2 for the objects limit.
Ok, so I think I can safely rule out the max objects limit, I used Notepad++ and did a search in the entire document for the word "Object". Only 445 hits came back.
So I'm guessing it's a problem involving a corrupt portion of the file. I'll do some more investigating.
Actually, there is a portion of the file that I have a question about; near the beginning of the file, it says this:
And this:
Is this normal?

lol, a "brand-new" CW_Ships.lyr file has this:
I also noticed something else:
Brand-new lyr:
My lyr:
I don't know if the golden one matters that much, but the red one might cause problems. (Perhaps the game tries to calculate everything in a 999999-sized radius, and freezes)

Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
I guess I'd better do this now, as exams are coming up, rather than later.
I've decided to cancel the Space Coruscant project. All of the work I've done so far will be placed on RapidShare shortly for anyone to download and use in another mod or a Space Coruscant map of their own, provided you credit me. I don't know how long those files will last, so if you're interested download it quick.
The main reasons I've decided to cancel the project are simple: I don't have enough time anymore to mod on a regular basis, as schoolwork, a job, and keeping myself fit and healthy take more priority than modding. Also, I guess this just isn't what I'm good at, no matter how hard I try.
Anyways, thanks everybody for your valuable and helpful support, especially the beta testers who had to put up with the code thingy. I'll still be available to be contacted in case something comes up. Thanks for the ride, it's been fun!
-stardestroyer001
P.S. If anyone wants to play the 0.5 or 0.5.1 betas here's my code key to install the beta:

Sorry to hear that, this looked really promising.
Anyway, real life is more important, and it's good you've got your priorities right.

Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
What a pity.
It's always hard to see a project die, but yours isn't technically dead, just on hold.
Anyway, good luck out there trooper, if there's any news on your map I will contact you.

Re: Space Coruscant (Battle over Coruscant)
Ok.
I'm sure some of you have seen the help topic I posted in the SWBF2 Modding forum. http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... 27&t=25240 I know most of you are thinking I've announced the end of the project just so some support and/or attention can be drawn to my map (like stores announcing their liquidation to get sales, and then say shortly afterwards "we're still here!"), but that isn't the case. I believe I have lost interest; that being said, there is still some interest in making this map a success. I really don't want to see the map go down, but school, work, upcoming exams, and friends are causing me to have very little time to mod, and with this freezing issue that I haven't been able to solve, I believe my previous drive to finish the mod isn't there anymore.
I've decided to try to fix the problem by asking for help in the modding forum (I really feel bad for abandoning the project so quickly). By this, I mean that this is it; if no one responds/the problem can't be fixed by me and/or by the people who respond, then it is final, my work on the map is done, and I'll be posting the map's files on RapidShare for someone else to pick up and continue on. Frankly, when it comes to choosing between success with a game and success in life, most of us will pick "life". (especially when it's between a game and a girl...)
I really don't like abandoning projects, I really don't. I've done it so many times in the past; paper models, half-finished, stuffed in boxes; Bridge Commander bridges deleted after two weeks work; extra mark-booster school projects, promised to be done, but recycled; I've had a history of running away when the going gets tough, or when my laziness kicks in. I assure you guys, after spending nearly a year on this project, I don't want to give this up either. The sooner the problem can be fixed, the better. After posting the message about aborting the project, I felt bad; something big was missing from my life. That's why I've decided to give it a second chance. (And, yeah, with the girl, it didn't work out that well)
Fellow modders, please forgive my past rash decisions (including this one, if it turns out to be rash). I really would appreciate your help in this time. From the comments some of you posted, I felt that this map was anticipated much more than I thought, and giving up now would let down those who have helped me in many ways in the past year. I can't let down anyone, not even one person. Please forgive me, and I would be in utmost gratitude for your help and support.
I promise everyone, if this problem is fixed, not only will I release a pre-final version of the map for everyone and anyone to play, but I will finish the map, and until that is done to my strict quality standards and personal satisfaction, I will not stop. This is a promise I sincerely intend to keep; if the problem is fixed, I owe everyone a great deal of help. You can even hold me to it if I try to back out after the problem is fixed.
These are my guarantees. I really love this map, more than school projects or paper models (I've been paper modeling since 2001, and had paper model projects 5 months in the making). I want this to keep going, and apparently so do many of you. This map is more about the Gametoast community more than me or any individual modder, and together, we can make the best space map ever conceived of!
