dDO Now for free!

Post by noMatt »

Hey Guys this is noMatt bringin you FANTASTIC news today.

For those of you who dont knows what dDo is: its a texturing tool with which you can auto generate some things on the texture but you still have full control on how it will look.
Its SUCH a big help for Artists

Quixe. (http://quixel.se/) decided to release their previous version of their tool dDo for free for everyone. They Updated the Tool and the new version still costs money (not that much freelancers and hobbyists just 99S), but i think supporrting this AWESOME company is just right.

Free release of the previous dDo

Yes, we are now making dDo as we know it free. Not only that but we have also spent some love and care on improving features, stability and UI. This version will have limited support but will still be updated as per your needs.

We sincerely hope that you who own dDo will not feel let down that you paid for something that will now be free, but rest assured we will do our best to make it up to you with a free upgrade to the all new, arguably more bad-Diet Dr. Pepper, DDO.

And on the end of this post a short video demonstrating dDo(the free old version, wathc demos of the new on the website):

I am guessing it would be 'Get legacy dDo' at the top of this page:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
The page says it is compatible with Photoshop CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6, CC and up, Extended and Standard editions, and runs on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.

I think the devs should make a free version compatible with GIMP.

Thats impossible. its using a Photoshop only scrip.
Already to many discussions about it... and since they got industry standard they care less and less about tinier customers like us...

EDIT: Wasnt it cs3 whats for free anyway? :)

Not impossible, code and scripts can be translated. GIMP is open source C, theres no reason a skilled programmer with enough interest couldn't grab the source and write or rewrite new tools or functionality for it similar to Photoshop's.

i am sorry but i think i have to disagree. code and scripts cant be translated (teddy mentioned that anywhere) because the gimp scripting dont seem to has as many features as photoshops has. generally nDo and dDo fit perfect in photoshop i use them since a long time and i cant think of dDo in gimp...

anyways if some of you have photoshop check this out. its just awesome and it will give perfect results and full control on the output (as long as you dont use presets. you can if you wish to. there some presets you can use without making your texture lookin generic. i dont recommend to overuse them. instead apply many single suddle details just as you would with filters. this will make your texture lookin good)

Edit: no photoshop elements is not supported

Elements is too watered down to work, I used to have a few different copies of Elements as it comes free with Wacom tablets, great for hobbyists but it lacks a lot of features the full version of Photoshop has.

You guys should just check out Substance Designer and Substance Painter, stand alone application for texturing 3d models aim SPECIFICALLY at game design.

I use Paint.NET for my skinning purposes, as it provides a simple way to do minor fixes. I also use Gimp to create textures, and would use photoshop if I could afford it :(
