Question on adding pieces of models to others.

How to create models in XSI and other 3D applications and make them work in Battlefront 1 & 2. Post models, tips for application usage and share anything XSI, 3DMax, SketchUp, etc.

Question on adding pieces of models to others.

Post by Dakota »

i just can't seem to find a tutorial on adding pieces of one model to another. like the main gun from the ATTE being placed on the ATAP that fragme made (in this thread)

i wanted to add some chaingun turret guns (not the legs) onto a tank model i was going to make, and maybe add some of the barrels like the particle cannon turrets on mygeeto to the front of my tank as the main guns. also i'm going to be looking some more in the allyouneedtoknow and XSI version of the allyouneedtoknow thread for some tutorials on modeling and hardpoints but if someone else found me one before i find one it would be nice.

thank you for any help.

Waste of time, all the time you'd spend trying to reverse compile Pandemics models to fit to your own you could just model them yourself. Besides, you can't just take a random part of one model and add it to another, you'd have to recompile the entire model. Are you really prepared to do all that considering all the hierarchy, bones and animations will NOT be there on a model you try to import using a file converter?

Just model your own stuff, hacking parts of others works together is going to be more work unless you had the original XSI scene file before it was ever exported.

minilogoguy means that you have to create the hierarchy yourself and since you appear not be be familiar with modeling for xsi you should probably try to do something easier first.
anyway, if you want to set up turrets, take a look at the extendet turrettutorial.

i was planning on starting easy with just the body of my tank, which is mainly box-like, but i wanted a tutorial or something so that when i am ready then i could use the tutorial to actually add the guns onto it. also i didn't really need to set up a turret, i just wanted to add a gun onto the tank that was from the chaingun tripod turret model.

i understood you, its just that "guns on tanks" are turrets... basically every weapon of a vehicle is a "turret", etleast in the odf, even though only moving weapons really have to be set up like one.
