I was thinking about making a Grand Moff Tarkin skin but when i open up the texture there are the checkered squares to show that bits are transparent, i know how to get rid of them but then the texture is really bright and i can't edit it.

This is a picture of the problem, but with the Darth Vader skin:

Except it is a bit brighter on the officer skin.

it looks like you have striped the RGB layer. That right there looks like the alpha layer...

This is what I get when I remove the alpha layer(anti-shine):

What do you mean, when i go to flatten layer i get what i showed you, the layers are then Red, Green and blue, no Alpha channel to delete.

you don't want to flatten the layer. you want to decompose the layer. Flattening the layer is combining all layers I beleive, that checkerd look you see when you first open the tga IS the alpha layer. What program are you using? You need to seperate the alpha(checkered) layer from the rest of the tga, only seeing the RGB.

I decomposed it but then the image was grayscaled, i picked RGB to decompose, i use GIMP, but i have Photoshop 5.

Ok, the best way to do this in gimp is as follows:

First open up, let's use the cis_inf_sbdroid in gimp

then hit image, mode , decompose, ok.

Next in the new decomposed image hit: image, mode, compose, make sure is says RGB(Not RGBA or you'll end up at the begining). You should have a TGA without the alpha channel. As far as reinserting the alpha channel I have yet to figure that one out. You can try to right click, select, select all, then hit layer, transparency, add alpha channel, then right click select all, layer, transparency, color to alpha, ok. Let me know if that works to remove shineness

Problem with doing it that way is I cannot figure out how to get the alpha layer BACK after I make changes to it, this is also in gimp. It's from this thread:
