Suspicious.Lop.2 in SWBFIIModTools

Post by Herrmann »

Today my Antivirus-program warned me of a threat coming from a "SWBF2sm.exe", which ,I think, was included in the ModTool folder. Is this threat negligible like it's not that kind of bad virus or should someone report this?

Ignore it. SM is just fine, but some AVs don't like it (both of mine didn't, but one of them actually autodeleted it and the other just gave me a warning message the first time I used it :? ).

Yeah same. Now that the file'S deleted that doesn't bother me anyway, since I dunno what the .exe was there for.

It's for running a dedicated server. Most people won't use it.

Well even better, that version's outdated anyway! I don't really understand why they left it there considering it's also included with the dedicated server application.

You cannot always be sure whether it was a false positive or the real thing. The first word that came into my head when I looked at this thread's name was "Rootkit."

I dunno what's happening these days in the internet and who creates that bull...t, but I thank god that something like an antivirus program exists, although that ain't always helping either.

It's a false detection. I've scanned it with commercial grade programs which found nothing. Besides these tools had to pass Lucasarts' inspection as well. If this is the first we've ever heard of it being detected 5+ years after the tools' release it's false, plain and simple.
