This movie looks amazing. Has anyone else seen the trailers for it?
I'm not much of a movie fan, but this one sparks my interest.

I really liked the first trailer, but the second one seemed like they were trying to pass it off as an action movie, which I'm pretty sure is beside the point of the movie. Either way, I'm excited. It looks really good.

Its rumored that, because the director/producer are the same as that as the Halo Movie, this is a test on how good they can make special effects.

Yeah, I've heard that too. The add looks awesome. Like Caleb1117 said, too bad the movie's rated R. I'll bet you they could've easily made it a PG-13. The Halo Movie sounds cool too, and I have high hopes seeing as Peter Jackson is the producer.

Yeah, it is a shame that it's R, I don't see any reason for "Graphic, Bloody Violence." I'm also (as he said) disappointed that it's an action movie. When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was going to be a satire (not really the right word, maybe "symbolic of" is better) of our human incapability to live with those who are different.

That sounds all philosophical and stupid, but I really thought that they were going to make it to draw attention to that problem in society, rather then having the aliens turn out to be the bad guys (of course, we don't know that they are, but that's what's implied by this trailer).

Yeah, the trailer looked like it was going to be a WW2 concentration camp movie (until it goes: "They are not...... human".

At first I thought it was the Halo Movie, because it was about some type of aliens, and I saw the name 'Peter Jackson.' It kind of looked like what Fierfek said, like a WW2 Concentration Camp idea. Then I remember that line Fierfek said, and I remember: "How do your weapons work?"

Really? I seem to get the idea that the Humans are the bad ones. Like, yeah, the aliens turn against the Human race, but only because they basically enslaved them.
The humans put them in a slum. Seems to me that the point of the movie is exactly what you were saying (how we don't like others because they're different).
In the trailer, the alien is being interrogated and they're asking him questions like "How do your weapons work"... All he says is "We just want to go home."

I was more stating disappointment that they're doing it as a "Revolution, freedom through war" film. By saying the aliens "being the bad guys," I was saying that the aliens are attacking the humans, even thought they aren't the antagonists (as far as we know).

I don't know how it would have been done without action, but I guess the documentary style really got me hoping that it would be a subtle allegory (still can't figure out the right word...) for discrimination, especially because it's set in South Africa, which was one of the most segregated countries in the world, and I think that that's the time period in which this movie's set.

Every time I see the commercial for this movie, I want to go see it. :|
It seems so interesting. Too bad we probably dont have the money to go to the movies as often as we used to. My mom better find another job soon lol (not in the housing business, 'nuff said)

I remember this one part...
"How do your weapons work?"
"We just want to go home."

Makes us seem like [Diet Dr. Pepper] holes, doesn't it? Lol

EDIT: Trailers got removed. :|

I saw District 9 last night. I thought it was amazing. It is the best movie I have seen all year. I honestly can't think of any criticism for this movie. If you are old enough (the movie fully deserves the 'R' rating), I highly recommend it.

You know, when I saw the trailers on youtube, I saw abunch of Halo fnaboys complaining that it wasn't the Halo movie Peter Jackson promised. The thing is, when Neil Blomkamp and Peter Jackson were trying to get a deal signed for the halo movie, there were licensing and ownership issues and ownership itself kept hopping from studio to studio, so they decided to shelve the project. But Peter Jackson promised Neil a movie, so they decided to make District 9 instead, based on Neil Blomkamp's short film "Alive in Joburg". The movie itself will address mankind's natural intolerance.

In short, alien refugees land over Johannesburg in 1989, and a makeshift home called cistrict 9 is set up for them to live in. Everyone is either expecting an invasion or advancements in technology, and they get neither. People become impatient and ownership of district 9 is handed over to a corporation called Multi-National United, (MNU for short) who, as Dohnutt said, basically enslaved them. And the main character of the film, a young lad named Wikus Van der Merwe, who works for MNU, finds what appears to be an alien aerosol can that sprays him with a mysterious gas. This begins to change his dna into that of the aliens (which is needed to activate their weapons), and so he decides to hide in district 9.

Another character of impotance is an alien called Christopher, who is in fact the alien speaking in the trailer.

I just saw it last night. It was wonderful. A bit gory and violent for my taste, but it was still very well done. I especially liked the pseudo-documentary style it was taken in, mixing cinematic shots with shots from surveillance cameras and the like. Very interesting movie overall. Also, the way they worked the plot out, it looks like they've left room for a sequel, if they felt compelled to make one.

Like most other peter jackson movies, I think this is a stand-alone movie.
