Useful Mapping Objects

Post by Sky_216 »

NB: If any admins feel that this topic is a waste of space, go ahead and delete it.

The idea of this topic is to provide a bit of a list of useful mapping objects (for interior maps, mainly). What I mean by this is small objects that you can make things from, as opposed to huge, comnplex, basically useless (unless you want a map just like the stock one) objects such as the kamino interior tunnels. Feel free to add whatever objects to the list you want.

Objects useful for interior maps:

Yavin:
yav2_bigwall -- a very useful object, a rectangular prism with steps on one edge. Very good for making dungeons.

Rhen Var:
Ice tunnel obects from harbour (rhn1). Large number of natural tunnels that can be fitted together with relative ease to make cave maps/just cave sections.

Hoth:
Tunnels. Easy to fit together and lots of them, with different shapes and sizes.

More soon....

Sorry, this isn't actualy adding to the list (I might later), but I thought you couldn't use bf1 assets in bf2?

Of course you can! They're all the same types of files, so they're interchangable between games. How would the Conversion Pack convert the Battlefront I maps if they couldn't use the objects from Battlefront I?

Good point, but every time I tried to use bf1 assets it crashed my map. :(

Very slowly.

Btw, for some maps I've lived and died by the Tatooine mushroom rock prop. It's very versatile.

This isn't exactly for indoor maps, but the Rhen Var ruins props are pretty useful for making destroyed buildings. I made pretty much an entire map out of them.

Example:

Just avoid using them too much, since you'll end up overloading your map with objects.

As for indoor maps, the Hoth crates are great. When I'm adding in small details and cover, these are some of the first objects I go for. Adding a few stacks of crates here and there can easily give an empty room the appearance of a well-stocked storage area or armory, or transform a free-for-all killing zone into a more of a shootout scenario.

Almost all of Squipple's models.
Most of the Geonosis rock formations, as they can be reskinned to be almost anything rock-like you need.

And Skyhammer, I respectfully disagree with you about the Kamino interiors, those can also be reskinned to make interiors for a lot of different kind of buildings.

The bes2_bldg_bridge is very useful for filling in holes
It has saved me so many times. Can also be used as a bridge (who would have thought of that?)
