I've downloaded some assets so I can use them in maps I will make, but I put the assets in the XSI_addon folder. I feel like I did something wrong. Could someone please help me?

if you downloaded world assets, you should will put this on data_xxx/world but if you downloaded sides assets so you should will put this on data_xxx/sides

You can put the assets you downloaded in that folder (XSI_addon). Nothing "bad" will happen if you do but why would you want to put it there? Why not make a new folder call "Downloaded Assets" or something similar and put them in there instead?

For what, storage?
If you plan on using the assets in your map project then you'll need to place them in the appropriate folders.

Alright, thanks. I downloaded the 327th side from the convo pack assets and the assets Squipple released. Once again, thanks for helping an idiot like me
