Effects folder? [Solved]
Sorry to bother you great modders, but, well,
Say I downloaded Caleb's starmap asset and wanted to add it to my map. I copied over the .msh's, .tga's, .odf's, etc. Then I ran my map and it was all fine, except that the little hovering sphere, that was supposed to be surrounded by a yellow glow, looked like a plain, floating rock. I assumed this was because I did not copy over the "effects" files.
So I went to data***/worlds/*** and, alongside my msh and odf folders, created an "effects" folder, then copied and pasted. I munged, and nothing happened. Did I incorrectly label my folder? Did I munge something wrong? Do I check any boxes while munging? Did I copy over the wrong files and put them in the wrong spot? I have no clue. Any fix to this? I suppose there must be one, I saw this asset used nicely in Theitfactor's Pwnfest beta map.

Re: Effects folder?
you didnt copy teh effects tga files or you have to find the effect tga files in the shipped effects folder or try cleaning

Re: Effects folder?
Actually, in my post, I said I did copy the tga's. I created a folder in data**/worlds/*** called effects and put them in there. Is that the wrong procedure?

Re: Effects folder?
it should work the way you described the procedure, try to clean and munge again

Re: Effects folder?
I'm a bit wary of "clean." I tried it once and my map crashed, and I haven't found a way to fix it. What exactly does clean do? I assumed it got rid of everything and reset your map to the default stuff.

Re: Effects folder?
no it deletes the munged stuff
if you munge after a clean, it munges everything
usally visualmunge munges only the new stuff

If you "tried it once and your map crashed," that's because you'd made an error and the clean just revealed it.Fiodis wrote:I'm a bit wary of "clean." "Cleaning" and remunging deletes everything in your "BUILD" folder and remunges your map afresh based on everything you have as they currently are in your data folder. This is different from a normal munge, because a normal munge just "updates" the map with anything new added from the previous munge. As a result, cleaning then remunging will take a bit longer but it will ensure that your map accurately reflects every change you've already made.
Cleaning can't do anything bad to your map unless you've already made a mistake.

Re: Effects folder?
Well, I tried it and it worked. Thanks!
Also, does anyone know how to rename units/weapons? There's something called editlocalize.bat, I know, but I have no idea how to use it. Tourny was nice enough to try to explain it to me, but I can't say that I completely understood him. For one thing, what is a "key," how do you make one, what does it look like, and what should I put in it?

From the FAQ Thread:
Always make that your first stop with a question.

Re: Effects folder?
It is. I just don't know what "localize" means. Well, thanks, Mav!
