sadly, my computer caught one hell of a virus, I have lost most of my assets.
although I have a back up disk of my basics. I have all my characters and skins, all of my vehicles, but the hangar and the rest of the stuff was lost.
but I will be continuing this map, and I will make it better than the last time, and I will find a way around all the crashes this time. (less time will be required since I have all the vehicles already made.)
I wasnt expecting a reformat again, but my comp wouldnt start up and the repair guy said that was the only way. I had created a disk with all my sides assets and my malachor assets a couple weeks before so I could work on texturing on my other computer. so luckily all those are saved.

Why are so many reformatting their harddrive?
I find it rather strange that so many people are getting viruses nowadays(I'm not saying that you didn't Gogie, just in general), being that there are so many effective programs designed to protect your PC.Teancum wrote:Am I the only one who doesn't get viruses?
I've read a majority of the threads and post throughout the GT forums and It seems as though when one little thing goes wrong with someone's PC well it must be time to reformat, reformatting your harddrive should be an absolute last resort unless you just don't care to find the real solution.
I've been using the same PC for 6 years without any virus threats, though there is the occasional spyware or adware, but those are easy to remove.
Just get yourself a good antivirus program and spyware/adware program and use windows firewall and your PC will thank you later.
And another thing.......Stay off the porn sites Gogie!

What gets me is that a "virus" 'kills' the project files. That wouldn't happen. Now in Gogie's case it might be something worse, but I can gaurantee of the 60+ times I've seen this at least 40 were easily fixable.
It would be extremely strange to have any project files infected. So you should still be able to back the current ones onto disc and continue on with the format.

I think what usually happens is that people freak out and reformat, without thought to their assets. Then they just have an old disc of them and just use that and say they were lost; which is true, though it could have been saved.
The one upside to Windows 2000- no viruses. I don't even have any protection!
