Alright, since I am computer knowlege deficient, I am in need of some assistance from the helpful sorts.
My computer wouln'd auto-read CD's so I have to manually start them. This problem started about 2 months ago, and it has finally gotten on my nerves. This started after I defragged my drive. I have no clue what I could have done to break this. Also, when I have, for instance, halo PC in the drive, and then I switch to battlefront 2, the explorer still says I have halo pc in the drive, and wouln't shot a thumbnail of the program. I need to know A.) how to re-enable autorun, and B.) how to fix the thumbnail problem.
thanks in advance everyone!!

Potentially CD thumbnail problems can occur when the CD is removed without the drives knowledge, I can't exactly explain this, but if i am running an iso off of a CD through a "virtual CD drive", if i eject the CD without unmounting the virtual drive first, the virtual drive still shows the thumbnail even though it isn't there. My Tip: Try ejecting the drive by right clicking on the drive and clicking eject.
As for the auto run problem, auto run was probably turned off somehow (whether knowingly or by accident) the only way I currently know how to fix it is by using microsoft's "tweakui". But be careful, tweakui also alows you to change other things that you may not want changed
oh, and just punch tweakui in google, you should be able to find a download through microsoft for it

The icon doesn't matter. If you have the SWBF2 disk in the drive, it will show its files no matter the drive's icon. To prevent spyware, rootkits, and some DRM programs from installing on your computer without telling you, its best to keep auto-play off. If you really want it enabled, read http://www.xmission.com/~comphope/issues/ch000130.htm

Thanks for the imput. I have a plethora of anti-spyware and virus protection, and I watch what I put into my PC by downloads and the CD's I own, so I know what I put into my computer, and I thank you both for caring about my PC's safety. My dad fixed the aotu-run problem. I'll show how to do it so that others with my problem can fix their computer:
1. go to run on your start menu and type in "regedit" without the quotes.
2. navigate through the following folders: My computer/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENTCONTROLSET/SERVICES/Cdrom.
3. look for the file entitled "AutoRun," without quotes, and click on the type REG_DWORD.
4. once inside, click on hexidecimal, and type "1" without the quotes, in the blank provided.
5. click O.K., close out of everything, and reboot the system.
6. when the system reboots, place a CD in the drive, and the auto-run should kick-in.
I traced the cause of this back to when I went to go buy some songs off of walmart.com. Since i haven't been their in a while, they had an update that screwed with my account. when I started my computer up later that day, it gave me the option to login as ****** (I cencored my name for privacy reasons, obviously.) My name was the only available person to login as, and I thought of that as weird. My dad also fixed that, but that was a couple of weeks ago. I'm never going to go back to walmart.com for anything. I hope that this thread will eventually help someone in the future, and I greatly thank all that viewed this topic and provided help. I will bear that in mind the next time I'm having diffulculties with anything computer-related.

Thanks 2_low for posting the solution after the problem was solved and acknowleging the problem was solved.
When there is a prob guys, keep hammering at it until it is fixed or there is just no solution to it. This forum is meant to help people with their technical problems, so it is very hard to help if there isn't a step-by-step solution. This is actually the first one I can lock for completion 'cause it has a solution explaination and an acknowledgement that it works. (though both are posted by the same person. Doesn't matter.)
