Sketchup to XSI problem

Post by [TFA]Padawan_Fighter »

Hi, I followed the Google Sketchup to XSI tutorial, and did everything it was supposed to tell me, but I came across one problem:

No textures! :?

I don't understand, I followed all the instructions (I think), is it supposed to be like this? How do I fix it?

Did you check the model under Textured Decal mode instead of Wireframe?

Ok, THAT worked, but I have another problem.

Everything is HUGE!!! That's the grid near the bottom left of the screen. Is the reference guy on Sketchup bigger than the BF2 units? I know the XSI man is. Also, I forgot how to scale, much less how to scale evenly.

*edit* Also, it tells me something about inverting polies.
Commander_Fett wrote: 3. In XSI, you have to invert polies that are black on both sides (apparently there are 2, if someone could elaborate on this it would be appreciated).
to do so, do the following: go into shaded mode and turn on the headlight.
FragMe! wrote:For inverting polies, select the polies you want to invert and on the left side menus under Model go to Modify/Poly. Mesh/Invert Polygons
I believe you can also right click on the polies and select invert.
OOOkay. I did NOT get that. What's the button for the headlight? Also, as you could see in the picture, there is no button called "Model" on the left. So...I'm stumped...again...

For the Model menu go to where it says render, click and select model.

To scale evenly, you select what you want to scale, press the scale button or hotkey, and as long as you're scaling in the x, y, and z direction simultaneously, it will scale everything how you want (or you can input the values directly).

Just to note, everything you have asked so far can be answered in the XSI help. You're basically just coming to us and saying, "I don't know how to use XSI."

That's basically it, but only because the tutorials I found were really long, boring, and complicated, making it nearly impossible to understand. But...I found the help index...which made me feel stupid.

Anyway...I got all that fixed, but another problem came.

How do I 'select the polies I want to invert'? When I click on them, it just selects the whole entire thing.

This still applies. If you want us to hold your hand, go to XSI help and type "select polygon," choose the first topic, and read it. It even provides a list of keyboard shortcuts!

Okay. I got it now, I'm reading the topics, and I went over to the Select menu and clicked Select n-sided polygon, and selected Triangle (which was the shape of the polygon I wanted to select). but it STILL selects the whole entire thing! I think it's because I grouped the objects together as a .skp so it wouldn't mess up, but I'm not sure. I really hate to bother you, but XSI is confusing.
