Annoying Terrain Height Error

Post by Sky_216 »

well, while working on a map I've got an annoying error - the terrain appears consistently about a metre lower than it should (or every object appears about a metre higher....hard to tell). This is obviously a pain for object placement, especially since some very delicate placement in terms of objects and terrain is needed.

Anyone else had this error/fixed it/got any suggestions? :S

I know this isn't much help, but I've noticed similar issues with ZE. I've not actually made a full ground map yet, but while working in space, I'd notice that object placement in ZE doesn't always match up exactly with what you actually see ingame. Unfortunately, I can't think of a fix for it, since this is an issue with how ZE displays the world.

The only suggestions I can really offer are multi-selecting anything that's linked and lowering it a meter, or actually going into the lyr file and entering the height manually for each object. The only drawback is...well...take a guess as to why I haven't really changed Boarding Action's layout in the past year or so. :P

If the objects weren't centered at 0,0,0 on export from XSI they will look weird offset-wise if I remember right. That might have something to do with your issue.

True. There are a few stock models that hover a few meters above where they appear in ZE. One example that comes to mind are the AAT chunks. Also, some custom models that do this are parts of Dragonum's capital ships.

I've had this when I've "Created New Terrain" in ZE. Not sure if that's what you did though. Otherwise I'm not sure, sorry.

Custom models, all centred correctly. And I didn't create new terrain. I think my fix will have to be just using objects for terrain (kinda doing that already).
