Game crashes [Solved]
i don't know what the problem is, but my game crashes after the first loadscreen (if i remember right it's before the LA logo appears). i tried reinstalling the game but it didn't work. does anyone know this problem and/or how to fix it?

Re: Game crashes
I had a very similar problem when I first got this game. However, the game crashed whenever I'd try to load a map, or load anything in-game, really. There were two fixes for this problem in my case:
1) I completely disabled all in-game sound (but you can't really get past the game's loading screens)
2) In Windows, I went to Control Panel Home>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Recording, and I right clicked in the empty space below a few devices and clicked "Show disabled devices". Then a device called Stereo Mix (for on-board Realtek audio users, "What U Hear" for other devices) popped up, so I right clicked on it and selected "Enable" and "Set as Default Device".
To me, your best bet would be to attempt fix #2.

do you mean you couldn't do anything in the game? my game crashes before i can do anything.Marth8880 wrote:or load anything in-game, really.
edit: got a new pc, installed BFII with 2 different cd's, but it keeps crashing. is it possible that my cd key causes the crashes? i used the same for both cd's because i can't find my other one.

Re: Game crashes
I am having a similar problem. I was modding, when I munged it, and I can't play bf2. It crashes to the desktop.

Re: Game crashes
I had a similar problem when I was messing around with an addme lua, so if you did anything like this work backwards (revert your changes step-by-step)
@modmaster: maybe the one is the result of the other.

Re: Game crashes
i don't know if i changed something in any addme lua. well, i don't think so...
also, as mentioned, i re-installed my game twice with different cd's, so i don't think any file could be the problem.
EDIT: good news, it works! i don't know why but my game works fine now. this thread can be closed.

Re: Game crashes
Just as a future reference, I pretty sure changing DirectX versions causes this problem, I was runing Directx 9.0 and swapped to 10 because it works better on GTA apparently. That causes bf2 to crash and without d3d9.dll (located somewhere in system32) the game wont even start for most old computers.Deathplayer wrote:i don't know if i changed something in any addme lua. well, i don't think so...

Re: Game crashes [Solved]
I had the same problem as modmaster. I munged my map on Windows 7 and then my game crashed. I tried everything, I deteled the map, uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and deteled mod tools but nothing worked. I finally went to a previous version of the game and copied it into another folder. My Battlefront 2 now resideds in the folder "Lucasarts Battlefront 2".

Re: Game crashes [Solved]
I don't know how or why you would swap those versions of DirectX, because they're actually independent of one another. There's absolutely no need to remove DirectX 9 to use 10 or 11. As I recall, Vista and 7 have minimal DX9 support out of the box (one dll file, IIRC), and it's therefore a good idea to install the latest DirectX 9.0c Redistributable package to ensure you have all of the necessary libraries. So, if you delete the one DX9 file Vista/7 ships with from your system, it should follow logically that you wouldn't be able to play any game based on DirectX 9, including SWBF2.Just as a future reference, I pretty sure changing DirectX versions causes this problem, I was runing Directx 9.0 and swapped to 10 because it works better on GTA apparently.
