Rebel Ops Complete

Post by Maveritchell »

I'm doing a little bit of portfolio work for the stuff I've done for SWBF2, and in doing so I filmed a complete playthrough of my Rebel Ops series. Because I thought it would be neat to have for myself, even if not for anyone else, I went ahead and uploaded it to Youtube.

What I did do with these videos was add in a bit of commentary as they go along. I made notes on things I found interesting, plot points, tips, etc. If you haven't played them before and want to see the maps, or if you're stuck at a certain part, or even if you just happened to like them and want to watch them through, they might be interesting for you to see.

This isn't a "perfect" playthrough or a speed-run or anything, it's just a one-take look at something I spend a lot of time doing and had a lot of fun with. I hope you enjoy!

Agreed with sampip. Very helpful walkthrough and nicely done. I going to have to try that weapon side quest on Aquilaris some time.

In the second vid, where you said, "I enjoy the concept of piloting things through narrow passeges, a theme I revist in the third mission," you meant the end of the SECOND mission, right?

If you have the time, doing something like this for your Spira map would be cool.

And I can't believe I never knew about (or never bothered to do... I'm sure you mentioned it somewhere when you released the map) the shield sidequest in Aquilaris. Though it isn't really important in that level as the combat isn't too difficult anyways.

I sure do, thanks for the heads-up.

I may do that eventually too, I just don't plan on showing that off as a piece of my better work - so it's not a top priority right now. The scripting is neat, but really basic, and the map itself is nothing spectacular.

Good work Mav! The commentary was a helpful edition. You've inspired me to play through all three again, I'll see if I can finish them all in one night . These videos are just more proof that you've given the words "Star Wars Battlefront II Modding" new meaning.

Wait, woah, what?

So is this thing available for download?
I better go search!

I might actually install BF2 again.

Um...they've all been available for quite some time.

Anyway, nice video. I never finished the last mission, so it was nice to see how to do some the parts that I got stuck on. Some of the modding explanations were helpful as well (how you made the AI "run away").

At the end of the third mission, you have to chase an AI opponent around the inside of the base. To ensure that it wouldn't be just two people shooting at each other, I scripted that AI character to run away from you rather than engage you.

Also, I forgot to add one small note to the videos (that has since been added) - no one ever seemed to pick up on the significance of the name of "Ben Quinarn" (who was your associate in The Big "L" and Bakura). Spoilers ahead:
Hidden/Spoiler:
It was a mashup of the names of two famous traitors - Benedict Arnold and Vidkun Quisling.

I also included several messages in Aurebesh in the second map warning you about Ben (not that it would have done any good in a pre-scripted story). If you had the persistence to figure them out and read them, gold star for you.

How come you didn't just use a mic to add the commentary?

Too bad you had to change from the Goldeneye gun.

Great video! I've never played through the missions myself - they were too frustrating for me (I'm not spectacular at BF2 :P). I enjoyed watching them done correctly though!

And right at the end: "Leaving battlefield". Made me laugh.

Because he didn't want to. I personally think it's easier and less time-consuming to add the text in, though I'm no expert.

He also noted in the video how he's not a voice actor.
I've done things like that before, and text is easier.

Ok, I would think that just adding a voice commentary would be a lot easier than adding all that text, but I guess I am wrong.
