Rename Maps
I have been wanting to rename some of the original game maps but I dont know how.
I would also like to be able to change the names of some downloaded maps too but I guess that you would do both in a similar way.
Can anyone help me out here?

Re: Rename Maps
Why do you need to rename them? Do you need their folders renamed or do you need their missions codes changed?

Re: Rename Maps
I want to change what appears in the instant action map list. For example, instead of just saying "Geonosis" I want it to say "Geonosis: Plains" because I also have a "Geonosis: Arena" map.
It's just to organize things really, kind of like how it was done in battlefront 1

Re: Rename Maps
You have to use the localize tool!

Re: Rename Maps
If you use the localize tool, that means you will have to munge a new custom core.lvl to replace the stock one. But the problem is, the stock core.lvl is a little over seven megabytes large whereas what you get if you munge a custom one with the mod tools, even by simply renaming the shipped maps, will always be slightly under three megabytes.

Re: Rename Maps
I just make another folder and type in what I want to type, let it munge the new folder, and do the following.
1. Open the world in the Zero Editor and save the world with the new initials in the new dirctory.
2. Copy anything necessary to the new and proper locations (odf's and mesh's, sky textures, sides, etc.).
3. Load the map in Zero Editor to make sure everything is working correctly and munge for a final check.
I think I might do things the hard way but it works.

Re: Rename Maps
That is a LOT more work then you need to do. And is that just to change the three letter name? All you need to do, as these guys said, is use the localise tool.
And @AQT, why does the file size really matter? Surely it'll still load if its a different file size, it just mightn't have everything the stock game had. You can give it a try, vonfrank, but its probably worth backing up the current one.

You don't have to take my word for it, but please reconsider after you have read these three posts I found using the Search:lucasfart wrote:And @AQT, why does the file size really matter?

Re: Rename Maps
Ah ok. I didn't realise that there was stuff missing from custom core.lvl/req files, although its kind of obvious when you think about the smaller file size.

Re: Rename Maps
If I'm remembering correctly, the last core.lvl wins. Make a ZZZ map. Edit it's localization and make the changes you want. Make sure to test it before the spending time making a lot of changes (if you have many to make).
