Hello there,
Since Zeroeditor is now working for me, since my attempts at converting models have been fruitless, and because I really wanted to finally publish something useful;
I present my first map:
Tatooine: Suburb Fight
It is set on the edge of a major city on Tatooine. The local garrisson is trying to scare away the attacking CIS/Rebels, but as they attempt to chase the intruders, the gates lock up and they find themselves cut off from the main city. The attackers, however, are prepared and they've dug themselves in quite well. (that's the story up till now, since I want to focus on making a map, I'll let it up to someone in the crowd to come up with a better setting (and this probably could use a better name as well)).
It’s nothing special, I probably won’t make a custom side in this first release, and I’m using only shipped Tatooine assets.

What I've done ([offtopic] is a great song I like to play as well)
- I Made multiple hills, they've almost all been completely finished off.
- I've set up collission around the wall and hills.
- I’ve done the planning work
- New lighting and tweaked Tatooine skydome
- Done all the Anti-Obvious first map stuff (skydome, ground textures etc.)

To do list:
- Finish the (for you guys) left side off with buildings.
- Construct a CIS fortification
- Create a lot of cover.
- Finish off collision on the new buildings
- Place lots of hint nodes.
- Get the “You’re leaving the battlefield” barriers to work.
- Make sure everything is perfect (slight terrain texture adjustments, make sure there are no floating objects etc.)
- Create a loadscreen.
- And probably break one of the first rules about mapping (nevereverevereverever release your first map)

I hope to release this today or tomorrow (if I release this today, there'd be 2 days between me downloading Fierfek's guide and thinking: "Hey, I can do this stuff too!" and publishing something.

Any hints, ideas, remarks etc.? Please, do post them!

So to conclude this first post: Thanks to Fierfek, for making the Guide that motivated me to play around with Zeroeditor, and last but certainly not least: The Great Community here, that made me want to do something productive.

Ok, since I've spent 1 whole minutes looking for my Lucasarts folder, I know it's time for some :sleep:'s.
I've uploaded an "alpha" of this map to filefront, because I'd like to hear any feedback from actual game experiences before I upload this to SWBFfiles.

I've already changed the color of the ground, it now fits in a lot better with the buildings.

That's veery intelligent. On my first map, I modified the LUa to get Count Dooku as CIS hero....it works, so I edited the sides to be the BFX ones....CTD :( :lol:

Good choice, keep it not too high for a first map, dude :thumbs:

actually, no offence, but I really think you should get some custom skisn for this. I recommend taking luke skywalkers skin and put it on another unit replacing lukes head - so it looks like they are civilians! Well anyway if you want more help with this and making custom sides which is simple just PM me or ask here. :thumbs:

I'll probably finish the map, make the terrain shine and the release. Then I'll maybe make this map have custom sides (I think I'd go for skin changes only, since the standard sides setup are working pretty well in this map)

It's not a very unique-looking map, but I'd much rather see something like this that looks completed than see a hundred first maps where the author tried to do something unique but just did it halfway. Nice work. :)

Nothing to cover that hole behind the stairs.
Feedback based on a brief match:

The houses don't have any windows or doors in them, that makes them feel lifeless (but I guess you have already said you will adress that issue later).

There's a lot of open, unused space between the south CP and the northern ones, be sure to add more objects besides stuff for cover, make it interesting to explore. :wink:

During the match, I thought to myself: "that town in the background looks so cool, I wish I was there", and that is a bad thing, the background looks more interesting than the playable area.

just a suggestion from the pics and personal thoughs tatooine has been done during the day but i've never really seen (don;t quote me on this guys) a night or sunset tatooine map and personalyl i think it looks like it could look really nice and a lot better than the sunny tatooine of course it would require a custom sky and some decent lighting but it could be done and add some unique ness to your map

Agree with that. I think the Rise of the Empire map series had a night Tatooine map, but it would be nice to see another, or an evening setting. The shipped Tatooine sky can be adjusted with some simple hue and saturation edits to make a very nice sunset sky.

I agree with Yank of that.

Will there be any vehicles? A map this big could house some pretty decent vehicles and even the AT-TE could fit in there.

Yeah, A night sky could be pretty new to the scene and look alright for a first map actually, also, Vehicles on a map this size seem quite neccessary.

Nihillo, thanks for your feedback. I'm working on the playable area, the background was finished before the rest because that's where I've practiced moving objects around. :P
About the vehicles, I may ad one or two, but you'll be surprised to the actual playable field in this map. It's more a Medium/Small map.
I'm working on the lighting right now, I'll post screenshots when it's done.
EDIT: (First post updated)
Edited the sky (made it a dusk sky, tweaked colour balance, added sparkles (in texture, it looks like you can almost see the stars coming through)
I'm now continuing with object placement (And Nihillo, again, thanks. I hadn't yet noticed that I accidently used the same windowless building over and over again.)
Changing the sky was a good idea! :D Thanks for the advice!
