Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
Yes, I agree that both Miley (not Hannah) & Jonas Bros. have talent.
Are there any Miley songs that u guys would recommend? I think I'm gonna buy the Climb on iTunes, but not sure of what others. There is one Hannah song I like but it hasn't come out yet, I've only seen it on DC called All Right Here.

I have to disagree, any talentless group backed up by Disney can be famous. With the vast technology Kids/Teens nowadays have access to, many just swallow in whatever the mainstream media feeds them. (Watch South Park.. Lol.)DarthRogueKnight wrote:I pretty much don't like either group, but music-wise, they both have great talent.
In conclusion, I guess I have to say: Other > MC/HM = JB

Personally, I think they're both examples of how abysmal the way pop music has gone. But if I had to pick between the two, I'd choose Jonas Brothers, simply because they aren't pure gimmick.

Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
I agree with that, definately. I couldn't care less about either of them, and that's partially due my innate aversion to any kind of popular music, and secondly to the fact that they are both little more than marketing ploys to easily manipulated tween girls. I'll stick with my classic rock and Halo soundtrack, thank you.SBF_Dann_Boeing wrote:Personally, I think they're both examples of how abysmal the way pop music has gone.

I will agree with you that Miley Cyrus does seem to run that "Hannah Montana" gimmick pretty far, but she also seems to be more vocally talented than the Jonas Brothers. They seem to be more musically talented overall, but out of the two groups, she's easier to listen to.SBF_Dann_Boeing wrote:Personally, I think they're both examples of how abysmal the way pop music has gone. However, it's not exactly fair to call them heralds of abysmal pop music. Every generation's pop music is looked down upon by the generations before, and that's all you're seeing here. If you really want to talk about the sharpest decline in "popular" music in the past hundred years, it probably actually started with singers like Elvis and your personal favorite Beatles. With acts like those, pop music became more about stage presence and visual appeal and less about instrumentalism and musicianship (whether the Beatles were able to manifest it in later years is irrelevant; calling early songs like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" good musicianship is disingenuous).
If you start pointing fingers at any pop music you can always find something wrong with it. To a certain degree, the most popular music for anyone is almost always watered-down a bit to a lower common denominator. The best thing to do is just find something good about it and listen or ignore it and move on.

Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
I've never heard either one of them, they're not a hit here. Though I do recall seeing Hannah Montana wigs in some kidsstore
All I've heard about them (all on the internet) is really negative stuff to be honest. Anyway I don't know wether they're actually that bad or wether it's just cool to hate them on a certain age
I don't think I'm missing out much on em though and I'd rather listnen to real, non disney music...

Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
Well, honestly, in my opinion, the Jonas Brothers are bad and Miley Cyrus is worse. So the Jonas Brothers are technically better!
In all fairness, they are all pretty decent singers, and I have definitely heard worse, but again, like plasmoidmonkey said, all they are doing is manipulating tween girls (like my little sister: *quote* EEEE! Kevin Jonas is soooooo cute!*endquote*
).
EDIT: My mistake, my sister likes Joe Jonas, not Kevin. My B

Yeah I know, but over time pop music seems to be getting more and more generic, simply because so much has been done already, a lot of it is what you have already heard. So that's partially the problem, in addition to what you said, and the fact that I'm just not into today's music that much, aside from a couple Alternative/Indie Rock bands.Maveritchell wrote:I will agree with you that Miley Cyrus does seem to run that "Hannah Montana" gimmick pretty far, but she also seems to be more vocally talented than the Jonas Brothers. Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
I agree with Dann. I was in Music & Computers class last semester and we learned about all the different styles of music and the styles of equalizing and mixing. Through all of this, you could see a dramatic change in the past 30 years of how things were mixed. There used to be three distinct mixing styles, but nowadays, almost (not all, but mostly) all music has been squished into one style. I'm not saying these people don't have talent, or that you shouldn't listen to them, but I do believe that the pop music industry has gone downhill.SBF_Dann_Boeing wrote:Yeah I know, but over time pop music seems to be getting more and more generic, simply because so much has been done already, a lot of it is what you have already heard. Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
Personally I hate them both.
However if I had to pick one of them on a purely analytical standpoint, I'd have to go with the Jonas Brothers being the better of the two. Miley Cyrus has some of the worst vocal quality and tone I've ever heard. When you consider the quality and tone of her voice in the song "The Climb", it equates to the fact that her voice simply sounds like a chain smoker.
The really only reason the Jonas Brothers equated to anything monumental is due to marketing. They're aimed at the teeny-bop age group and they're affiliated with Disney. I rarely ever hear remarks on the quality of their music more than I here about their looks. That is the only reason why they've come this far.
However, if the Jonas Brothers played a different style of music, they'd be marketed at an entirely different audience which you have to take into account. The actual vocal quality isn't really all that bad and I actually like the sound. The only real reason I don't listen to them is because of the songs. I also do have something against them for the popularity they have obtained based on looks.
The actual music style that I listen to is Alternative music, Indie, Emo, Screamo, and Techno (lots of Euro stuffs).

Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
Well, I basically dislike them both because they're really the generations cheesy pop artists, and they're only big because they're promoted by Disney.
But if I had to choose one of them, Id say Jonas Brothers. They actually play their own instruments a bit, wheras Miley just has people she probably doesnt even know playing instruments on the back of the stage.

Re: Miley Cyrus vs Jonas Brothers
As a matter of fact, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus is geared more the towards pre-teen girls and "tweenage" girls demographic while Jonas Brothers is geared more towards the "tweenage" and teen girl demographics. Not to encourage stereotypes, but these artists are generally associated with those respective demographics in the eyes of the average person too. I would recommend thinking twice before starting an open serious discussion about them when you're 1) a boy and 2) in high school, considering the implications that has. There's nothing wrong with liking them, but I wouldn't suggest going around your school talking about Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus.

I guess I like JBs better than Miley Cyrus, but I'm still creeped out by the fact that one of the JBs likes to where girls clothing, and his friends ask him for fashion advice (read it in an interview).
