Question: Which method did you use? The permanent or the temporary?

I just have one word to say about the Wii - Wow!

I finally gave the thing to my kids on Christmas day, hooked it up that night, and have already burned through 2 extra sets of batteries playing Wii Sports and Z:TP..

We rented Rayman - Raving Rabbids - pretty cool as well. Now if I could just get my hands on another Wii-mote and nunchuck, I'd be in business for some 2 player boxing..

I can't wait for this machine to mature a little, and for game developers to really push the hardware to the limit. The graphics are superb - even though they're only 480p.. The textures are a little weak compared to the other next gen systems, but the speed, effects (lighting etc) are all top notch.

If you still haven't got one - what are you waiting for? If you can't get one yet, then I feel sorry for you, but don't fret, there should be plenty of them out there soon enough, especially now that Christmas rush is over. The anticipation was killing me when I got mine - I had to wait an entire month before I could play the thing after I picked it up at the store..

I find it amazing that the PS3 is just a dog.. Any store here in Winnipeg has at least 2-3 of them - noone wants to spend $659 for one, and now after having played the Wii, I can understand why its totally outselling the PS3. A lady came into our local EBgames store and wanted to do a straight trade - She had a PS3, and was willing to trade straight up for a Wii.

I think Nintendo finally did something right with their console release, and man am I glad they did.

I'm no 1 on a list in this store so I'll probably get it soon. They don't have a clue when though. Grr.

Guess what?
I got a Wii!
:)

Ok, here's the story.
I went to St. Catherines over the break (Southern Ontario), so anyways, this past Tuesday, I went into Best Buy, and I was just kinda looking through the aisles, when I saw two boxes that said "Wii" on them. I thought to myself that they're prolly just "Wii Carrying Bags", like I had seen before. But when I moved closer, I realized that it was a Wii! I ran down the aisle, and grabbed it and picked it up, and ran over to my Dad. We were both in shock :P So, I showed him where I had picked it up, and when I got there, the other was in some other guys arms. We ran to the cash register, and the girl there said "Wow, I've never seen something so popular. We JUST put them on the shelves." And another girl said "Yeah, you're so lucky. Those things are fun. Was the other one gone?" So, I said yeah, and said bye. I started to walk out the door, clutching on my new Wii, and another employee said "Have fun!".

So, when I got to my grandparents house (Where I was staying), we had spaghetti, (yum!), and I plugged my Wii in and played all night! :D We made Mii replicas of my whole family. It's hilarious how much they look like us :D

Anyways, I'm not allowed to play until all of my projects are done, so... :? Ah well. At least I have one. And, I've only got one game. Wii Sports.

:)

[EDIT]
Oh yeah, and I played the PS3 in Toys' R 'Us, and it was so realistic! It was some offroad racing game, but wow. That was cool. The graphics on it are amazing. But, overall, I'd still rather have a Wii.

Off-topic: Emperor have you at least tried the Wii at a store or one of your friends? What counts is that you tried a game and realized a motion control has great potential in changing games unlike Xbox, PS3, and PCs being behind creativity.

A Wii is a very rare sight were I live. None of my friends have one, and you can't play them in the shops.
I just know I'll like it ;) Besides, I want to play Zelda.

What I wanted to know however, how quickly does the Wiimote "eat" batteries?

Yeah. I've been wondering that too... :?
Hopefully later on you'll be able to get a charger for it or something...

And, I also had never played the Wii before I got it. There was an EB Games I went to, and it was there, but they didn't let me play it... :| They said something about not being able to play it on the Christmas Break... Sounded like a "You can't play it, 'cuz I'm too lazy to set it up" excuse...

Meh. Oh well. Now I have it, so...
:D I played Wii Sports Tennis with my friend last night. It was so much fun! We were on a team :)
And we also played Baseball, and we discovered the different types of pitches there are :D

Today they sent a Wii to the senter for the elders for them to get into some activity without leaving(LoL!) the place, annnnnddd they LOVED IT!
so now they are giving them three Wii's for them to play with whenever they want, man Wii is really Non-Gamer Friendly!
oh BTW, Dohnutt, please give me your Wii number.
to find it go to the Wii message board, click write message, click the icon on the left and then it will show your wii number.

Well, to answer the question about the batteries... We opened our Wii on Christmas night (that's when we hooked it up), and we got about a week's worth of CONSTANT use out of the remote before the batteries died on us (or were VERY low at any rate).

Keep in mind that these were the crappy Maxell batteries that ship with the Wii for the wii-mote, and using something better (duracell or Energizer) should garner better results.

If you want better life from your wii-mote, go into the settings for it, and turn the volume on the wii-mote down, and disable the rumble feature. This should help with battery conservation. If you're still having it eat batteries like Star Jones at an all you can eat buffet  I would invest in a good set of quick charge rechargeables. I think Duracell and energizer have batteries that will recharge in about 15 minutes - you probably needed to take a break for 15 minutes from your wii anyways :P

Hope that helps.. Now all Nintendo needs to do is make an ONLINE-capable Boxing game so I can totally burn through my batteries. And take out a few of you chumps at the same time...

Thats awesome Zaborack! lol
I use rechargeables, much better than the others. They run dry quite fast, but much cheaper!

And this is awesome! go to http://www.orb.com and download the program. it lets you stream music, movies etc from your computer to your wii! it rocks! and works :D

some info site wrote:it is specificly said in the Nintendo Wii manual that you must NOT under any circumstances use other batteries than Alkaline batteries(just look over the battery youre buying and look after a line saying Alkaline somewhere) nor recharge your batteries as this can cause high unstability to the controller while playing(pointer getting crazy etc.)
i read it at some info side, dunno where, may be fake but i doubt it, but if they get unstable just change them ;p

You should find that site again.

My friend is using rechargeable in his, and he loves them. I believe he's using "Pure Energy" rechargeables.. (You can get them at any Wal-mart in Canada) and if I'm not mistaken they are actually rechargeable alkaline batteries..

Anyways, he's had his wii since about a week after it debuted, and he hasn't had any problems yet. Far better to have decent rechargeables than regular batteries that die after only a few days.

When any battery runs down though I've noticed that the pointer doesn't track so well, so I don't believe that's the fault of rechargeables..

This (official) website wrote:Important Note: If you would like to use rechargeable batteries, the only type of battery recommended are Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. When it comes to using rechargeable batteries, you must follow manufacturer guidelines for safety and proper usage. Failure to do so could cause damage to the Wii Remote and void the warranty.
