Re: The Final Frontier
Wow, I've always dreamed of making a Star Trek map, but I've never gotten around it. Ah well.
I have a basic knowledge of mapping (It's fairly easy), so if you haven't found any mappers yet, you could use me as a last resort.
*Edit* Well, a little over basic, as I don't really have any problems mapping (except making AI paths, but I'm learning to get around it)

Re: The Final Frontier
Yay first post by me!
I was just reading this thread and wondered if you guys were familiar with the game star trek legacy and the filefront site that accompanied it that made mods and ships and all sorts of goodness... my questions is if you ever considered converting some of the ships and stuff and saving yourself the effort...
politely excuse what i just said if it fails the comprehension test

While that would be a logical suggestion,ecko_66 wrote:Yay first post by me!

1) The format could be hard to convert, then resized, re-uv'd and enveloped.
2) It wouldn't look that good to start a project then use someone elses work to get it done
3) You would need the author of that model's permission

1. Converting wouldn't be too bad, but the resizing may, the uv's and envelopes would be torture.
2. Why not? That's what assets are meant for.
3. Agreed; but you do have a fair chance of getting it.
Although all that said I'd still recommend not using those, if only for conversion reasons.

Uhh...I don't think there is any chance of asking the company that made that game (Bethesda and Mad Doc i believe) to use the assets from their game.

Re: The Final Frontier
Hmmm....if they were originally made by the company, I see your point. However, he mentioned a Filefront site similar to SWBFFiles (which is somehow still up. Strange.) so I assumed he meant player-made models. If they're player made, you stand a fair chance.

Re: The Final Frontier
Thanks guys... I totally agree with Gen Kenobi about model originality... I was just thinking about when creating a ton of models for literally everything becomes too long of a process, you could ask permission from some of the people who made add-ons for the game. But again, I have no experience converting models so I'm out of my expertise (can someone remind me what that was again?)
Oh yeah walls look good... better than before for sure... do you think the chairs with be just props or be able to enter them for different controls?

How soon? My inbox still has unread messages (just to let you know if the PM failed). Take your time though, just wondering
The bridge looks really good, but I don't think I have any say in that matter because I (very) rarely watch Star Trek Enterprise.

Re: The Final Frontier
I have to say, that is pretty cool. The uniform is just about perfect, but you may want to ask around for someone to do a little bit of work on the face though if that's not your forte.

Re: The Final Frontier
Maybe you can use this face of Scott Bakula?
It was the most "facing forward" I can find.

Re: The Final Frontier
Well, now it's stretched... I would either look for a tutorial on faces or ask around for someone (but don't look at me!)

Re: The Final Frontier
just paste the face from the picture in to a layer over the original. Then set it to a low transparecy so you can see the original face of Han, and the face of Scott and stretch his face so that the eyes, mouth and nose overlap over hans so that it doesnt appear stretched. I can do this if you dont want to its realy easy.

Re: The Final Frontier
Nice work on the face, but I think it should be resized horizontally a bit, his face appears to be melting
Also, the texture on his uniform should be fixed, it looks like glitter. Here's a pic to help you: Couldn't find a full-body picture.

Re: The Final Frontier
Hope these help:
(You could use the green one for the "Looking in a Mirror Darkly" Archer if you choose)
Although I do not have much useful modding experience to help you, I wish you the best of luck in this project.
Star Trek is my second favorite franchise (second only to Star Wars, of course), and It will be very interesting to see where this project goes.
The bridge/weapon models you have so far are very nice
May you go "where no modder has gone before"

Re: The Final Frontier
Hey, how 'bout one of the maps be the Enterprise crew vs. the Empire (or Republic/CIS/Rebels?)?

Re: The Final Frontier
'Twouldn't work. The TNG crew would just send over Wesley Crusher with laser-proof shielding and annoy all the Imperials to death every time.

Off-topic: Can we, as science-fiction fans, please move past thinking that SW lasers = real lasers? They are "lasers" only in name (not to mention most SW lasers are "blasters"): http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/LaserGangsterJawa wrote:'Twouldn't work.
