Hint node question & terrain problem [Solved]
I just resized my hoth map to give it more outside of the area room.
The question is,
if a hint node is buried in the ground, will the Al still use it?
Edit:
I made a new terrain (256x256), but its not saving. What is going on?

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
How CAN they use the hintnodes if they're underground?
AI need to be able to go into the hintnode to use it im pretty sure. If its underground they can't reach it, unless you're talking about underground tunnels/caves in which case it would probably be yes. The easiest way to find out is to put a sniping/other hintnode under the terrain where you want it and see if it works.
Also, try a manual clean and munge to fix your munge error, probably.

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
AI only see "paths" in two dimensions, so it probably wouldn't matter.

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
What do you mean by "it wouldn't matter"? That the AI would just ignore the hintnodes?

Not the munge. I click "save" in ZE close it. Then repoen and load the map - its back to how it was before i made terrain changes.lucasfart wrote:Also, try a manual clean and munge to fix your munge error, probably.

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
The AI would use the hint nodes anyway granted if they can access them. This falls under the same category as overlaying paths.lucasfart wrote:What do you mean by "it wouldn't matter"? That the AI would just ignore the hintnodes?

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
They have to be somewhere where the ai can get to them. If you have underground tunnels and place one in them, the ai will use it. if it is just randomly placed under the terrain, with no way to get down to it, the ai wont use it.

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
Well not exactly based on what you stated above. Let me be very clear: the AI only think in two dimensions. Imagine a coordinate plane, just the X and Y axes. Now regardless of whatever height a hint node is placed, an AI will use it being that the AI is directly on it, below it, or above it. In other words, imagine a vertical line drawn straight through the node going both directions to infinity, and if an AI is anywhere on this line it will use the node (unless passage to the node is impeded by an obstacle of course).lucasfart wrote:@AQT - oh ok. thats basically what i was saying.

Re: Hint node question & terrain problem
Easiest way to check behavior of hint nodes is to place a couple of mine or snipe nodes, one on the ground and one in the air and see what the AI does with it.
As for your other question, are you changing the map size after you have started, if so this is not really a good thing to do as a lot of your objects will be misplaced or displaced as the case maybe.
The way to know if you have successfully changed the terrain size is there will be no terrain texture. Once again the best way to check to see if you are doing it right is create a test map, change the size, save, close ZE, reopen and see if it worked.
I know simple suggestions but sometimes simple is good.

Yes, the maps texture was wiped.
I went an resized the map then saved it. Closed ZE. Repoend and loaded the map. Everything was back to normal..
Edit:
I have successfully resized the map!
