A few mapping quesions

Post by Commander_Fett »

:jango: Just a few questions I was hoping someone could answer:
I was wondering, how would I add rain to a map?
Also, how would I be able to add in birds to my map?
I am making a map with some bridges on it, and my planning never goes over the sides, but when the AI are fighting, they cross the path lines and fall to their doom. Is there any way to fix this without adding barriers?
Not that I'm nesesarily going to put a map in the WIP board as soon as I get a few bugs fixed or anything ok, maybe I will, but if I, say, wanted beta testers, would I just email them the map file?
Thanks in advance for any help! :bobba:

Think about what you want to add to your map then try to remember which shipped world had the feature you want and then look up how they achieved it in that world, shipped examples are a great teacher to learn from, and as always, search before asking.

Same answer as above

You can't cross path planning, AI see the world in 2d thus paths have infinite height, but if this isn't what you mean and all else fails then you can try invisible collision objects, though barriers should work fine.

What I mean is that the paths stay on the bridge, they don't go over the edge, but when there's nearby enemys they will walk past where I had set the hubs and connections.

Thank you for the help by the way. :D
P.S. Invisible collision objects?

Barriers will do the trick, and really that's what they're for. The only catch is the AI can cross them when doing things like avoiding explosions.

As for beta testing, you might want to find out who's willing to do so first either via PM or in your WIP thread. I'd advise finding people familiar with mapping, balancing, and various bugs to get decent input. You can just link to it in a PM, once you have the people you want.

You apparently didn't look hard enough. There is a custom music tutorial in the The FAQ / Everything You Need Thread Version under Sound.

Oh. Oops, I guess you're right. I don't have star wars bf1 for pc (xbox, but not pc *strangles something*) so I can't do it. :( Does anyone know how to fix Fett though?

You don't need SWBF1 for PC - I don't have it either. All you "need" are the modtools (which is a free download) - and technically you don't even need those. I've done custom sound in both the SWBF1 and SWBF2 modtools, it was just easier to write a tutorial for doing it with the SWBF1 modtools, because to make the sound munging work for SWBF2, you have to do a bunch of other things (detailed in Rends's and MajinRevan/PR-0927's threads). The process is the same for both modtools.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. I already have the BF1 modtools instaled. But can someone please help me with Fett? The same thing happens each time I skin the cis too... I think the cis_inf_jangofett.tga goes on top of another tga, but I havn't been able to find it. So I have the helmet and armor, but the belt, clothing, etc are not in the tga.

EDIT: oh yea, one more thing: would it be legal for me to put star wars music I buy in itunes in my map?
