Re: E3 2010-Official Thread for Speculation and Discussion
The lack of Pikmin 3 is a bit saddening.
Did they announce a release time for Zelda? Is it this holiday?
I really want to get my hands on the 3DS.
Finally Goldeneye. Interesting. I hope gameplay holds up and that they polish the graphics a bit more. After seeing SMG 1 and 2 I know the Wii can pull off some good stuff.
Up next at 12PST and 3PM EST is Sony. Kevin Butler I think I heard is doing the conference, which makes it already awesome.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that in my last post. The visuals look like a mix between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. I think overall I prefer the more realistic look of TP, but the mix between the two styles for the new game looks great.plasmoidmonkey wrote:Adult Link in a WW-esque setting is nice
Also, the added element of physical motions opens up all sorts of possibilities for new puzzles. Past games have always had fun puzzles, but they become a little easy once the same puzzles are reused over and over again (light torches to make a chest appear, put an object on one switch while you stand on another, etc.).

Yeah I'm pretty excited to see how Sony fairs against Microsoft and Nintendo. I rather enjoyed the bit of the Nintendo conference I got to see (which was everything after that weird Kirby Yarn game).

Nintendo always seems underestimated, and yet, they're able to come out with among the most impressive previews.

A: that game isn't necessarily anywhere near completion graphically, and
B: It's bound to look worse due to quality (if you're streaming)

Those graphics are pretty much similar to Wind Waker, which were not "awful," but certainly wasn't for everyone. I honestly do not know why people have spaz attacks and go "OMG NOT REALISTIC SO IT SUKS!" whenever cel shading or unrealistic graphics are involved. Nobody appears to like using their imagination nowadays. That's why I like older games: imagination is involved.lesovikk1 wrote:What the, The grpahics look horrible for the new zelda. Well, they took the Twilight Princess artwork, then they used the cell shading method from Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks. So, essentially it's Adult Link from Wind Waker.lesovikk1 wrote:i just saw it on youtube (machinimas channel), I just dont like the cartoony feel. I just like the feel of twilight better thats all

Gabe was at Sony to announce Portal 2 and steam for PS3. Wow, really? That was the "BIG" surprise. The fruitloops.
I've never been a huge fan of Sony's presentations over the years, this one still didn't wow me. Also why isn't Kevin presenting the whole thing? Jack is kinda lame.

My only criticism is that Skyward Sword reminds me a little too much of Mario. Other then that, I like it.Twilight_Warrior wrote:Well, they took the Twilight Princess artwork, then they used the cell shading method from Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks. Agreed, the new system makes it look like their going for the "more accessable crowd" thing rather than the guys who have already memorized the Zelda system and have been familiar and comfortable with it for years. It'd be a shame to lose Zelda to the "casual gaming" industry with easier enemies, puzzles, and shorter gameplay. That would suck.Ping wrote:My only criticism is that Skyward Sword reminds me a little too much of Mario. I also REALLY hope that truly was just wireless interferance during the demonstration, because if I'm going to have that much trouble controlling the sword at home, the remote might go flying.

At the very end you could see people playing the demo and things were working right, especially the bow.
Apparently PSN now charges money for "gold" members. Well, that's one advantage the PS3 had that's gone now.

I agree. While I definitely want to see more streamlined puzzles with the new motion controls, the idea of "simplifying" the game seems odd, because I find the Zelda formula to be simple as it is.

1) I'm late on this but the TOR trailer was EPIC
I thought it was supposed to be an MMORPG though? Whatever, the graphics were phenomenal! The battle sequence blew me away! I honestly wish it could have taken place in the ROTE/GCW era though
2) Nintendo's 3Ds certainly sounds interesting. I've only read about it but apparently it works without any glasses which surprises me. I wonder how they did it and why that isn't applied to consoles with 3D tvs. The 3D Playstation is supposed to still utilize glasses.
3) The TFU2 trailer was pretty cool, I just don't have the same faith in what the final product will be. TFU1's user interface was extremely difficult to manage and the graphics were lacking despite what the trailers showed.
4) Kinect: Star Wars - I'm surprised no one has said anything about this yet. The game itself actually looks rather lackluster but I'm excited to see how well the Project Kinect (formerly Project Natal) interface will work out.

Re: E3 2010-Official Thread for Speculation and Discussion
To understand that you need to understand how 3D images work and what parallax is. Three-dimensional anything always has to project two different images to each of your eyes to appear 3-D. Old 3-D movies used two images separated by red or blue filters, modern 3-D movies use two images (this is why they're blurry without glasses) that are separated by a slightly different polarization in each lens.trainmaster611 wrote:2) Nintendo's 3Ds certainly sounds interesting. The 3DS uses "parallax barrier" technology (which was not originally developed by Nintendo, but this is the first mass-market item to use it), which basically projects a different image to each eye (there is a built-in filter in the screen). This is why you don't need glasses, but it's also why it's not optimal for TVs - or anything viewed by more than one person. Because the projection is optimized for a single user at a specific point, if you're sitting around in a living room watching TV on a parallax barrier screen, you're going to have to sit at one specific point for the tech to be effective. This is not conducive for multiple users at one time, which is why 3-D TVs use glasses, which make the 3-D visible from anywhere.

Yeah, it's an mmorpg and the actual gameplay looks nothing like that. Still, it's enough to get me stoked for the game's storyline and perhaps some of the cutscenes will be a cinematic sequence like the trailers. It's true, though, that they should look into making a feature-length movie like that.trainmaster611 wrote:1) I'm late on this but the TOR trailer was EPICI thought it was supposed to be an MMORPG though?
